Hey Folks,I have a 60,s Lafayette 50 watt bass head with the matching 2/12 jenson cab.The factory tube line up consists of 2/6L6,s and 3 au7,s.It sounds pretty good as is although I don,t really use it because I,ve fortunatly am stocked with better harp amps.I bought it on the cheap from C-Lists yrs back.My ques. for anyone in the know is could I damage the amp by putting in higher pre-amp gain tubes,ay,s,at,s or ax,s?The amp is pretty loud but could use more bite.I have alot of tubes to experiment with but don,t want to fry anything if I do the wrong thing. Thanks for your time and any answers if you have them.,ATB,NiteCrawler

Tube away Crawler. You will not hurt the amp with the swaps you mention. I don't know if tube swaps will achieve your goal. My guess is circuit alterations are in order. Give me a holler if you want to sell it...BN

Thanks for response BN.I figured that the additional gain factor would give the amp a little more balls (am I allowed to say that I hope)As said in my post it does make for a decent head for harp and I have run it through 4/10,s and a 15 cab.I do have a squeal killer so I,m guessing that that may take care of the higher gain factor.I like to experiment on occasion in my limited time and its been something that I wanted to try.BTW its very lite for a 50 watt head. Thanks Again for the feedback
