I say something about an electric harmonica based on the old wurlitzer electric piano tech. Anybody know how this is coming along. ----------

It's on "Instructibles.com". The guy was only able to get it to work by detaching the reeds, putting in a plastic washer as an insulator, and then shaving down the sides of the reeds so there was no possibility for a "saliva bridge" to short the circuit. I tried to replicate it using some other ideas from old patents (do a google patent search on "electrostatic pickup for harmonica"), but I couldn't get a working prototype.
It really bumbed me out that I couldn't make it work, actually, cause I think it would be a great cheap solution to make an amped up harp that is not susceptible to feedback. I guess there is a reason why TurboDog's laser based system is the leading modern version of this idea! ----------   YouTube! Soundcloud!

I bought some components this week to play around with this (wierd that you brought it up). It would be a fair bit of effort but i was thinking I could replace the reed plate with something non-conductive, and mount a brass strip on the coverplates as a ground plate instead of using the reedplates.
Instructable is here:

Isaac I'd be interested to hear more details about how you went with it or if yo have any ideas.
Also does anyone have any suggestions for a pre-amp circuit? Or a good material to cut reed plates from?
