now we know what the "honkin" stands for booboo, hahahahahahah :)

"Love Song" for spamojmeter

Head under water
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
Made room for me but it's too soon to see
If I'm happy in your hands
I'm unusually hard to hold on to

Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well, but you make this hard on me

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'ma need a better reason to write you a love song today, today

I learned the hard way
That they all say things you want to hear
And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and your twisted words,
Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
Hello to high and dry

Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am

I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I'ma need a better reason to write you a love song today

Promise me that you'll leave the light on
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone
'cause I believe there's a way you can love me
Because I say

I won't write you a love song
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this

Is that why you wanted a love song?
'cause you asked for it
'cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
'cause you tell me it's make or break in this
If you're on your way
I'm not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
I don't want it for a minute
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that there's a reason to write you a love song today, today

"Let us not turn the direction of this discussion into a boring "meta-debate" and stick to the program - OK? :)"

Frank, I tried facetiousness last time, since that's the language you've been working in this thread, but the truth is, I'm lousy at facetiousness and somewhat better at straight talk. So I'll talk straight, and hope that you hear me.

An occasional silly post and/or silly thread are every forum member's right. We've got one or two staff trolls, too, and we all know who they are and suffer them, humor them, or both.

You fall into a somewhat different category. You're a skilled, knowledgeable player and I think almost all of us would agree that you're a real asset to this forum when you participate from that position of strength. Because you start a lot of threads and contribute very actively to them, you take up more bandwidth here, arguably, than any other forum member.

What puzzles many here--and I'm quite sure that I'm not alone in this--is why you diverge so frequently from your position of real and admirable influence into flagrant surrealism and corrosive facetiousness. Some might say that you simply have too much time on your hands. What you're doing, in any case, when you go in that direction is unhelpful and unconstructive. It brings the forum down.

I'd like to be able to say that I'm quite sure this is not your intent, but I simply don't know what your intent is. I do know that, in giving full sway to your facetious, Dadaistic whimsy to the degree that you have, you're in breach of the forum creed. This is a blues harmonica forum. The occasional--occasional--OT thread is acceptable, as I say. But chronic OT threads and/or repeated OT contributions to threads are not acceptable. They put you in breach of the forum creed.

To repeat: this forum was not created so that people could share fart videos in threads purportedly devoted to the subject of what a modern blues harmonica player is or isn't. If you don't understand the way in which such contributions place you in breach of the forum creed, please reread the creed.

Please back it off a bit. Thanks.

I get side tracked when someone enters a thread I started and they go off topic - it's a snow ball effect. I'll just ignore that stuff from now on, No problem Adam... :)

BTW...Nice playing Igor!

I'm definitely more of a modern-style player. Still, I started with the Adam's videos, and I think that the best way to branch into new territory is to learn the classic blues harp techniques first. I like to mash up modern and classic style as much as possible, so they can blend seamlessly. I'm trying to do a harpboxing video that will get me on to America's got talent, but I'm not sure how I can imrprove my presentation. Any tips are appreciated! Its a pretty cool sound, promise!

@Cabbage.

Thanks for sharing. You are making some cool sounds with both the beatboxing and the harp, and the ingredients for a some great stuff. But the way you've laid it out all sounds like too much. At times you run up and down the harp a bit aimlessly, with a lot of speed, but no clear melody or groove (to me, anyway). It seems like you are kitchen-sinking all of your techniques in one song.
I would keep it simpler, stick to an underlying groove and have themes that you repeat with a little variation, perhaps starting with one and returning to it at the end. kudzurunner has great advice on the basics of improvisation on one of his vids. I don't see why these wouldn't apply to harp-beatboxing as well.

Good luck!

I tried to find a way to link to this song, but the best I can do is say go to this page of my website and play the Matthew Burnett song:

Not a blues song, but modern, imo.

I'd say yes. I can tongue block and pucker, I can overblow (456), I can play in multiple positions, speed run, etc. I'm not really a traditionalist, everything that has been done with basic 2nd position tongue blocking blues has already been done. Time to move on.

I recall when "Modern" meant indoor facilities and maybe, if you were lucky, AC in your motel room.

I am not "traditional" as I have not memorized songs and licks from traditional styles (though I am sure I have incorporated some in my playing). I only use what sounds right in my head in the moment, and I improvise a lot when comping or soloing.

I only occasionally put overbends to use, usually the 6OB when I do. I can and do play fast lines at times.

I will settle for being a "contemporary" player, which means I am playing now in my own style, or maybe which means nothing at all, which is OK by me...
