This is the back of the box that my latest Golden Melody came in. I know a LOT of us use Special 20 and GMs. We are wrong if we mainly play blues. Now what do we do? I thought about trying the Blues Band, but I play rock too. My only option is the Crossover.
Why is the Crossover the only harp that is Universal in the Hohner line of diatonics.
Ice, tmf, why didn't you guys tell me I was screwing up?
I know. I'll buy a set of Blues Bands for blues and Hot Metals for rock, and hammer my beloved GM cover plates until they fit.
Shew! I was really worried for a second there. I hope none of the people that heard our band realized I was using the wrong harp.
By the way...what the hell genre is "speciality"?

Thanks For explaining this. I have SonnyBoy Special Blues Harp. I bought it from Honkin Harmonica Shop. Here is a demo video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYciVDpJcmo

This was great news! Now I finally know why I do not sound like I'd want to.
I'll have to buy even more harps, but different from the loads I've tried.
Then I'll see the light.
Thank you so much! Blessed relief!

Okay CarlA...marketing....Not sure what their strategy is? If it's all BS I would put each harp in at least three categories. Just funny. ---------- www.facebook.com/catfishfryeband

Interesting that despite the Rocket basically being a fancier Special 20 that they aren't suitable for playing the same types of music.

Pretty much the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen....the SP20 and GM aren't suited for blues eh? Ohhhh I see, the far more expensive MB Crossover and Deluxes ARE suitable for blues. Okay...that makes sense now.

The point most of you miss here is that these things are aimed at beginners as a general rule because, to be brutally honest, the vast majority of beginners aren't going to be very knowledgeable about the instrument at all (and often times, the very same thing applies to sales people in brick and mortar music stores as well), so don't waste your time getting into a hissy fit over this because it's more like an argument of which is better for blues on a guitar, is it a Strat, Tele, Les Paul, ES-335, ES-295 or what, or which is good for jazz, rock, etc.
Bottom line: don't waste time getting ridiculously worked up about this because that's such a waste oof time. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Well...that's kinda the point I'm trying to make as well Bob. Hypothetically, John Q Public the average beginner who knows next to nil about the instrument but wants to play blues, looks at this chart and sees that they've marked what just happen to be the two most expensive diatonics in the Hohner lineup, two moderately priced ones, and a couple of budget line models...seems like they're kind of trying to draw in the uneducated sucker. ----------

Nobody is getting worked up Bob. We are making fun of it and hoping the new players that see our posts don't read much into it. This chart is not helpful to a beginner. It's just wrong.
I would love to see explanations. Tone, tuning, bendability, etc...Why is this good for that but not this...lol
Either the chart is a little wacky r "speciality" is a genre as well. I'm not saying GMs are the best for blues, but I have tried most of these, several Suzukis, Seydels, and others. I can bend just fine on all of those but still not found a harp that bends (and overblows) as easy as a GM. ---------- www.facebook.com/catfishfryeband

I'm not getting how it's "brutally honest" to say that beginners aren't very knowledgeable about the instrument - of course they're not, they're beginners!
