Hi everyone,

I'm Tom Lauten. I live near Loch Ness in Scotland.

I started learning harp 20+ years ago but gave it up after a short time despite reasonable progress. I picked it back up again a couple of years ago. I play with a group of friends at a pub on the Loch every Friday. We play a lot of blues as well as some folk and rock. I usually play cross harp but occasionally dip into straight harp for the less bluesy numbers. I am totally self taught and only play by ear.

My hobby-suffering Wife, Siobhan, just bought me a "Honkin' Toms Super Chump" amp for our anniversary and along with a couple of Lone Wolf pedals, a reverb and my BEAUTIFUL, "new" chopped Turner fitted with a 50's Shure element (thanks Keith from http://www.harpmicstore.com) I am loving my Friday nights big style!

For what it's worth, here is a clip of me stepping up to the mic with the house blues band at Hal and Mal's in Jackson Mississippi last year...a real bucket moment for me...what a total blast! Not good I know but I was NOT going to pass that chance up!

I hope to include some pics of my kit as well, if I can figure out how! Thanks everyone for contributing to such a helpful forum!

Thanks Graham! I play at the Dores Inn, a great foodies pub on the North end of the Loch in the village of Dores.

I couldn't find the embedding link on YouTube. I'm on an iPad so that could be an issue.

Gonna try and get some images on next. Is there a way to get email notifications of thread replies?

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately there is no way to get email notifications of thread replies, but this forum always bumps threads back to the top when a new post is made. In practice this keeps most active threads on page 1 for a day or two after the last post (it varies a bit depending on how many threads are being posted on) so if you drop by you should see any recent activity.

On YouTube to find the embed link you have to hit 'Share' and then that will pop up another option that will let you select 'Embed', which will give you the embed code to cut and paste. It used to take fewer steps but YouTube decided the page was too cluttered.

As for photos, you are way ahead! It usually takes a while for people to figure out the basics since we don't have snazzy link buttons (I wish we had snazzy link buttons!). The site doesn't resize images for you, so right now I'm having to scroll to see the whole screen. That happens a lot. There are a couple ways to size them if you want. There is an html solution, but what I do, unless I have to keep the photo the same size is wherever I'm hosting it is I re-save using the same filename after resizing it.

Welcome to the forum, and have fun. :)
