Hopefully I've embedded the video correctly. Sorry about the shaky phone cam with tiny musicians on the stage. At least my buddy thought to record it. This is the main band I play with, "The Tonehounds", playing the western Maryland Bluesfest back in June. The guitar player is really the band leader but on this song it's Butch, the bass player singing on the old Nat Adderly tune, "Work Song". I feel really fortunate to get to play with these guys. Peer critiques are invited. I'm pretty sure James Brown would have fined me for lagging on some of the pushes.

Aw c'mon. No love(or hate)for the new guy? I'll try to cook up some backing tracks if live isn't the right format. ;^) Okay, I'm starting to sound pathetic...

Good work man. That's a song which has intrigued me for a long time. So far I have not gotten a chance to work it up. William Clarke's slower instrumental version was an early inspiration re 3rd position chromatic for me. More recently I saw Gindick doing an acoustic guitar/rack harp version which is great as well. I think it was Maya Angelou who did a take of it on live tv, maybe Dick Cavett, in the early 70's which really stunned with it's power as well. Of course the raw power of the original was pretty much the apex, but you guys seriously did justice there.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate it. Nina Simone did a pretty haunting version of this song and it's quite possible that Maya Angelou did as well. Most of us harp players are more familiar with the Paul Butterfield instrumental version on East-West. I'll have to check out the W.Clarke and Gindick takes.

Thanks for the added versions, Frank. Good stuff. I haven't had a chance to listen to the Ford bros. 10 minute version yet but I definitely will. By the way, I got nothin against guys playing with backing tracks - I steal some of my best licks from them!
