If you haven't had a chance to hear Mike Caldwell, you are missing out. He's a great country artist and has a regular playing gig in Nashville.

He will be at SPAH again this year and he is really a lot of fun and definitely the life of a crowd. His style is distinctly country but he can do a lot within it.

I was sitting here thinking "that looks easy"... that's usually the first hint (for me) that someone is quite good.

He's probably the fastest harp player I've ever heard of. Unlike a number of speedy players, he's intonation and articulation is anything but sloppy. Nice take on this Stevie Wonder classic.

It's a valved, country tuned harp in A. Mike sent me the full track of this song. It's really good, and he's just a great player.

Many people don't realize that in addition to being a great harp player, Mike has a really good understanding of music in general, chords, theory, etc. He's a great musician and wealth of information when it comes to making music and understanding what you're playing and why. He also plays banjo and piano too, if I'm not mistaken.

I've got all 3 of his records and learned some of his work note for note. Incredible. He's also a great chromatic player but when I complimented him, he acted like he barely plays it and learned it only for those recordings.

Pigeon Forge is about 5 hours from Nashville, but I do get up that way. Appears it would be worth the drive.

Many thanks,

John
