Hello speaker experts. I've recently changed the Jensen speakers in my Bassman RI to 2 Weber 10A125-O' s and 2 Eminence 1028K's and I have been absolutely amazed at how much better the amp sounds

I've also got a '68 Fender Silver Face Vibro Champ which I use for small gigs or quiet jams. It's got an 8" Weber 8Sig Alnico speaker which the previous owner put in it. According to the date code the speaker was made in 1998, and I think it was pretty much bottom of the Weber range at that time Now that I know how much better a harp-friendly speaker sounds, I was wondering whether anyone has any opinions whether I should swap this one, and if so, what should I put in its place?

I've got a sig 8 in my champ... I quite like it. I have quite a few 8"... Guess I should compare that one to some others...
I have pair of 8A100 which I like...
But I dunno...it's a tough call because it kinda depends on the amp I think...
But...consider that Brian Purdy chose the sig8 as the stock speaker in the HG1/2 series...iirc...it's an ok speaker

Yeah....the Sig 8's are quite popular these days. Purdy put them in the HG1 & 2, and I think the Double Trouble as well. Rick Davis has been loading his new Memphis Mini with them. If the one you currently have is indeed from 1998, then its entirely possible that the build quality of them was different back then. Maybe try ordering a NEW Sig 8 from Weber. Maybe a ceramic this time?

I will say that a choice for Champs rising in popularity is the new Eminence 820H. I've seen these get loaded into several blackface and silverface Champs and Vibro Champs at my local amp tech shop.

I for one, can not stand the Sig 8. I have tried these in several amps, due to internet clamor, including Champ and VC. I find them to be mushy, lacking in both highs and lows. No cut at all. Totally lost in the mix. Basically I think they suck! My choice for VC in this order is: Weber 8F125 w paper dust cap, Eminence 820H, vintage Hepner big mag alnico from a Hammond organ. I prefer a clear, strong, tone with a big bottom. To each his own...BN

Thanks guys, some good advice there. Plenty to think about, still not quite sure what to get

BTW for some reason I made a mistake in my original post. The 8Sig in my Vibro Champ was made in 2008, not 1998. Dunno how I got that wrong

Brian Purdy when asked "what is your favorite 8" speaker"?
He responded a RI Jensen P8R.
Weber Sig 8s sound great in some amps and not in others.
That can be said about a lot of spkrs.

There used by amp builders because there inexpensive.

I wouldn't hesitate trying an Eminence 820H if I needed one because I've yet to try a hemp cone that I didn't like!
