I have run into this a few times and it really bugs me, theres a guy named Phil Bradbury who makes amps and he calls them "Little Walter" Amps.

Heres how he says he got the nickname, from his website:

"Why the name "Little Walter?
As a graduate of the EKU Broadcasting Department I was on-air in 1976 doing an interview in reference to the business I was in. A friend saw the piece on TV and started calling me "Little Walter" as a reference to the famous commentator "Walter Cronkite". The name stuck and since that day I have been called "Little Walter" by my closest friends. Now you know the rest of the story."

I just think its completely disrespectful of this guy t call his amps "Little Walter" amps. Not because I feel like he's trying to fool me but because theres already been a Little Walter. Just totally disrespectful.

Heres his website for anyone who is interested:

I once jammed with a dude who gave himself the stage name "Blind Muddy Guy." No kidding. 20 year old suburban white kid who played guitar as fast as anyone I've seen but with no soul and the worst time you can imagine. Now THAT'S a whole 'nother level of disrespect.

Nah, Little Walter was one of the most influential harp players and blues musicians of all time, but I think it's a mistake to rise great musicians until making them gods. Personally I disagree with all those fanatic attitudes of "keeping the legacy safe from any profanation". If somebody else's name matches with LW's name, and there's not a bad intention (like fooling customers or something like that), come on, it's not a sacrilege. I bet there's a lot of Robert Johnsons out there and there's nobody fighting against it. It's just a man's name. A man we admire and imitate, but a man after all.

@ Martic, yes I understand but his nickname is not even related to what he does in the music business. He got the nickname doing one interview after college, then 25 years down the line he wants to make an amp named little walter?

Ray Charles real name was Ray Charles Robinson. He didn't use the Robinson name because their was a famous boxer at the time named Sugar Ray Robinson. Its completely unoriginal and the guy should have done some research before using that name.

I don't know if it's disrespectful or not, but I play with a guy sometimes who is one of the endorsers, and I have never heard an amp sound that good. They are pretty sweet sounding amps for guitar.

I wrote Bradbury a while back and told him he oughta try his hand at boutique harp amps as well....just considering he's going by "Little Walter" and putting that brand on his tags, harp players' eyes would probably perk up at the idea. Maybe a Commando or National based amp. I held back my comment that it'd also only be respectful and fitting for him to do so.

He said the following in reply.

"I have used my 22 watt blues amp with a 112 cabinet with my green bullet. It really kicks. I have a 115 cabinet being built and I will also try the 22 with the 115. I think that may be the best yet."

So....at least we know the guy plays some harp himself.

Is it a good product ? Who cares what he calls it ? Little Walter's name was Marion Jacobs. I guess he didnt want to be called Little Marion

I suppose if he called the amp "little Dick" nobody would buy it

Little Walter is long dead and I doubt he would have cared what anybody names an amp ( as long as he got his cut )

Now if he called the amp (your average 5 an 1/2" dong) it would sell like hotcakes :)

I agree with Todd-Jimmy Capps and Vince Gill are endorsers and I have seen Jimmy on stage with one-amazing sounding amps for guitar-would love to try one for harp.

"Jimmy Capps has now been a member of the Grand Ole Opry Staff Band since 1967 (although it wasn't officially graced with that title at that point in time). All of the Grand Ole Opry Staff Band was honored on October 11, 1982 when the CMA nominated them for 'Instrumental Group Of The Year'."
