I picked up a RI for a real good price due to cosmetic issues. This amp was on stage with Robert Lockwood Jr for a while. MoJo. the owner got into a spat one night over who owned a certain amp. So the fellow went home and spray painted his initials in blue, on every amp he owned. This would stop any feature confusion! Anyhoo, I bought the amp after the owner passed. It was filthy and painted. What to do? Two Tone. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First I scrubbed the crap out of it with Spic-N-Span. Then painted the end caps with flat brown Rustolum as planed. I then put on a sealer coat of satin Minwax poly just on the cleaned up tweed. Next went two coats of Minwax Honey Pine as is touted on the web. I put this on the entire cab. I could tell that I was not getting the results I was looking for. The tweed was still basically yellow. Yuck! I looked thru the paint cabinet and found Minwax Red Oak oil based stain. Remember I said, it needed some red... I used a syringe and put 20 drops of Honey Pine poly on a plastic cap. Next I added drops of the Red Oak stain. When I got to five drops I tried this on the tweed inside the cab. That was the winner! Next, the entire cab got a coat of the Honey Pine/Red Oak concoction. That is a 4:1 ratio. WOW, Perfect... After two days of dry time the cab got rubbed down with a brown 3M scratch pad. Next a coat of Minwax satin poly, one more light rub with the 3M pad then the final coat of satin poly. Notice that the cab was masked on the inside, the inside tweed was treated the same as the outside. Just like painting a car a different color.
Electrically this is a stock Bassman save a 5U4 that droped B+ down to 434VDC a Tung-Sol 12AY7 in V1. Used RCA 12AX7's in V2, V3. Sovtek 5881WXT power tubes, which are well known for harp. Bias is a cool 11W +/- . This reduces feedback in harp amps. This amp is Loud -N -Proud...G
Still gotta see the Dutchman for some leather for the corners

Ha Ha, Just got home from the gig. It was an outdoor show with three bands. We managed to dodge the rain.
My '95 Bassman is stock save a 5U4 and a NOS TS 12AY7 in V1. I have several dam good amps here, some tweeked for harp, some not. I am here to say that this amp Kicked some Royal ASS!! WOW, what a sound. Big Fat horn like tone when you dig in and a sweet cutting clean when you roll her back. No problem with feedback and I stood in front of the Bassman! The band loved it, the crowd loved it, and I about blew a load on the beautiful beast! They say this is the Holly Grail of harp amps, I am a believer!!!
About the only thing I didn't like is the chrome control panel with white lettering. Can't see the lettering.
I'm not going to do anything to this amp mod wise.... LOL LOL LOL

Thanks Supe. I just picked up some leather from the Dutchmans harness shop to use for corner protectors. Now I need to learn how to wet form leather.
1847, There was an outdoor gig scheduled for this Saturday. Had recording gear ready. Gig got canceled today due to club loosing its liquor license. "Damit Jim"

I contacted the fellow I bought the Bassman from. He sent me his craigslist pics. This is how the amp looked when I bought it. Who says you can't make a silk purse from a pigs ear?

OK, now for some sluicing. Is there anyone in the Cleveland Ohio area who can identify the original owner of this amp? His iniitals are on the side of the amp. I'm looking for the Robert Lockwood Jr connection I speak of in the beginning of the post. This should be interesting. Thanks...BN
