I have my first show on Thursday. I've played school concerts, busked, etc. but I'm playing my first real show at a Rowayton Pizza and I need advice. I'm playing harp with a guitar player/vocalist who is technically on the sign (not me). Advice?

First, get your cues down. Second, find out if the guitar player wants you to do fills and comps between his vocal lines and guitar lines. 3. Do rhythm comps to help fill and add to his playing unless you are doing a lead. 4. Do fills and comps on vocals as he is just tailing off of the last word of the line. Never play over his vocals. 5. Get your cues down. Good luck. You can do it.

You may be nervous going in, most folks who do public gigs get some flutters, but once the first note is struck you are in it and it becomes instinct. Something takes over. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

Have fun. If you play with your heart and enjoy yourself, people will enjoy it too.

Make sure you hear the key correctly - play half as much as you might at a rehearsal - relax and smile - when the guitar is playing a solo maybe some rhythm "chucks" or vocally "Yeah, let 'er loose" type of stuff if that feels right.
Mostly have fun and be "back up" ----------

I agree with HarveyHarp - make him sound good.
Also, don't forget to smile.
You have already performed, this is no different. As it is a food establishment, don't be surprised if they pay less attention to you than at your school concert.
Listen and pay attention and you'll do just fine.

Like Jawbone says, you can talk a bit too. I developed a line of banter when the guitarist was tuning between songs or fiddling with his amp. "If you can't find us here, you can find us on Facebook," etc.
