Did you open-up the back of the cover plates prior to placing them on the hat?

Carl, yes I did. I folded the back onto the bottom, rolled over them with a J roller, and then pounded them flat with a rubber mallet. They are attached to each other with jewelry wire.

Did you emboss the coverplates? How did you make sure the spaces between them were gapped correctly? What difference, if any, would it make if the hat was made out of Corian?

I only wear hats made out of saliva-soaked unsealed pear wood. Sure, they are leaky and I get splinters in my scalp, but the pure authenticity cannot be denied.
