If we all don't know by now, Abbreva is the best thing for cold sores. But for the last week I've had a nagging injury on the right side where my top lip meets my bottom lip. It's a small crack, like you get in the wintertime. What do you guys use on lip injuries?

Sorbolene. I'm a pro fisherman so lots of exposure to cold dry winds with a bit of salt spray mixed in meant I used to depend on getting it every winter at least.
A few years ago I started using sorbolene to shave with instead of foam or soap and haven't had the cracks since.
In fact, at my suggestion the girls in my house now use it when they shave their legs and whatever.

In a similar thread some years back, Greg Heuman introduced me to "L-lysine", a dietary supplement pill you can get in the drug store's "vitamin" section. That stuff is a figgin' miracle when it comes to healing all sorts of lip problems - from canker sores to "bit" lips, it helps your body heal them in short order. Sometimes it literally works overnight (as opposed to several days healing time normally). I swear by the stuff. I take a "megadose" of it (two pills) when I feel a canker sore coming on, or if I've bit my lip, and it usually nips it right in the bud. I can't recommend it highly enough!

When I bite the side of my lip I use Kanka to keep it covered. I've also used pineapple slices. Stay away from salt, and check any medications you might be taking. I take a nasal spray for allergies and it makes sores in the mouth and nose heal slower, so if I burn the roof of my mouth on pizza sometimes I'll take a day or two off at let my nose drip so I can heal up.

If its a crack I always think I might be dehydrated so I drink water and use chapstick religiously. I've still got a little thing for Suzy Chapstick after all these years,,,,,
