Hi. We've got more reports of people having problems accessing the forum, so I thought I'd create a thread to help people through the steps they need to take so we can create a support ticket with our hosts. There is a lot of jargon here, but if you follow it step by step we can help. I wish it was easier (really, really wish it was easier).

The first thing that we have to do establish is whether the issue is a local connection one or a DNS issue. To identify which, we normally ask the user to do the following steps:

1. Click on "Start".
2. Type "cmd" and then press "Enter" on the keyboard. A command window will open up.
3. Type the following and press "Enter" after: ping www.my-website-name.com (replace "my-website-name" with the website domain name).

The following will then need to be answered, based on the results on the step above:

1. Does the reply return an IP address? It should be "69.90.45.?" Y/N
2. When pinging the domain name, does it say "Ping request could not find host www?.."? Y/N
3. If pinging "www.websitedynamics.com", does it say that It's trying to ping 69.90.45.8 with a reply? (Note, this will reply back with "Reply from 69.90.45.8:?." all the time). Y/N
4. If pinging 69.90.45.249, does it get a reply back? Y/N

The answers above will help our systems team determine the next course of action.

Also, it is important that the customer tell us the IP address that they have (via www.whatismyip.com) and, if possible, the DNS that they are getting. The latter can be quickly obtained by asking their respective ISP. Also, find out from your ISP if you have a static or a dynamic web address. That can, depending on your provider, work for or against you.

If someone who knows macs could chirp in with info. We might need info for how to do this on mobile devices as well.

When you have that information, email it to me at
membership@modernbluesharmonica.com and I'll pass it along to support to get you whitelisted.

For those of you who can't even access the site, well, you won't see this, so if you know people who are having trouble, pass this along (I know most of Russia and China can't access us). My hope, although it's a long shot, is that if we can get enough people together at once we can get them to change how they do their blocking. It's a long shot. A lot of their other clients rely on the blacklisting to keep them spam free because they don't take the time to monitor their site or hand approve applications. It's a spam war out there, but we shouldn't be taking so much friendly fire, so let's see if I can't get you all squared away.

I can access the forum at work again! I guess Nate was able to put me on the whitelist from the info I sent.

Thanks Nate!

Or it could just be the secret cabal that runs the internet (I hear they are all evil trumpet players) decided to let you have access. Your access seems to have returned before I filed the support ticket. :)

Anyone else having problems, in addition to the above information, may I have permission to forward your emails to support?
