I've been sitting here for 20 minutes trying to figure Bahamut out by ear and am completely clueless as to what Wade Schuman is playing. Is he playing a Natural Minor harp? I think he changes harps through the middle of the song but I can't tell for sure. Anyone have any pointers? This style of playing is incredible!

It really is a great record. The song is in A minor I think, and he very well could be playing a natural minor harmonica. There is probably some chromatic too. Randy Weinstein plays a lot of chromatic on the Bahamut CD. He could be playing some 3rd position too, but to be sure there is some switching around between Wade and Randy. I spent time working on how to play Yesterday Morning from that album and he seemed to switching from a Low F in 3rd position to a G in 1st on that one. Regardless it is an excellent harmonica album.

Thanks guys, I don't have a harp in that key but I might order one and try it out. I may also just try figuring out the riff on an Eb harp in 3rd position.

I can sort of get this in 3rd position on a Bb harmonica, but I have been thinking about buying a Natural Minor, so if I am buying a Marine Band should this be in the key of F? I saw Hazmat Modine play at the weekend at the Womad festival in the UK, Superb! He didn't use a Chromatic during this performance.

I found a post by Wade in another forum, giving some information about the Harmonicas played on the Album, which may be useful:

1 Yesterday Morning: two diatonic natural minor harps in G minor..

2 It Calls Me: Randy on chromatic

3 Bahamut: harmonica minor and chromatic F minor

4 Fred Of Ballaroy: no harp

5 Broke My Baby’s Heart: Two Bb harps in F (second position)

6 Almost Gone:Chromatic harp

7 Steady Roll: Chromatic and diatonic key of F (2nd Pos)

8 Everybody Loves You: Randy on Chromatic harmonica

9 Lost Fox Train (for Jed): regular G diatonic in first and second positions

10 Dry Spell: Randy Chromatic harmonica

11 Ugly Rug: no harp

12 Who Walks in When I Walk Out?: G natural minor diatonic and chromatic

13 Grade - A Grey Day: Randy on chromatic harp

14 Man Trouble: two regular diatonic C harps
