Hi I have been looking at a few amps the one above has taken over from the da5 which somebody on here recomended on here I have noticed some.of the settings have changed instead of blues 1 2 3 etc it has different ones now not sure what diff that would make seems good value for money at 120 pounds compared to say The roland street been looking at the pig nose 7 - 100 hard to get in UK now if anyone has the new vox let me.know what you think

Hi Mac I've got the mini 3 which looks similar, minus the rythm part of course. When I bought the mini 3 I had the chance to play it along side the Da5, both were good enough for me but the mini3 was a little cheaper and had the look of the vox tv amps which I think looks pretty cool.

The settings look the same on the 3 and 5 and they are pretty good you can get a nice clean sound all the way up to insane crunchy, I tend to stick with the AC15 or the 4x10 settings with a bit of reverb or echo, less crunchy but more my taste :o)

I also have the pignose but as much as I love it, it is way pricey to buy in the UK, I got lucky on ebay.

Out of the two the vox gives you way more options and the new rythm section on the mini 5 looks good too.

If you live anywhere near fife your more than welcome to pop by and try them side by side.

cheers
Greg.

Maybe it was my YT you saw about the DA-5. I still have my DA-5 and use it often. I don't regret that purchase at all.

thanks for your replies guys , I think I am sold on the vox rhythm but was concerned that it would be as good as the da -5 since they changed the settings but the new one seems the same in some respects as the mini 3 so should be ok

for the money seems a good buy I was thinking of getting the roland street but for me starting out I like the look of this one and at 100 pounds cheper means I can pretty much get a mic and the rhythm for same price as a street

and yes mr so & so I think it was your vid I saw I also watched a vid on here of someone playing the three and liked the look and sound of it

thanks for offer greg but I am quite a way from you in Derbyshire !

I have seen a kind of retro styling of the new rhythm at eagle music for only 109 pounds I like the look of it rather than the grille if I could post links on here I would post it but still not worked out how to post a live link

just got to decide on a mic now

Mac, if you are interested I've got a pignose 7-100 in very good condition that I would sell for 60 quid shipped. I modded it to run on 6 standard AA batteries or you can run it on 8 rechargeable AA batteries. I got it for busking but I found it to be too gritty for my liking.

thanks for the offer rock monkey but I am going to go with the vox mini rhythm I do like the look of the pig nose and there is one or two on ebay in the uk but look like they are going to go for silly money I feel I need to play it safe for my first amp with some scope for fine tuning maybe I get it as a second one

I think I am going for the bottle oh blues mic from states as only 47 pounds including the shipping and it looks funky a green bullet is going on my Christmas wish list

I know this is an old thread but I have the same question ....Is the new vox 5 rhythm okay or should I hold out for the older version with the blues 1,2,3 settings ?
I see it wasn't quite answered so thought I would bring it around for another try.

thanks, I've been at it for a few hours only to find out the one I decided on, the Vox 5, isn't made any more

...just to update I found an old one vox da5 on e-bay so ordered it up, just couldn't resist the price...

Got the Da5 a couple of days ago. It was in much better shape than I thought it might be, actually in great shape, and came with batteries ready to go. Using the bypass option which eliminates special effects, as I'm looking for the cleanest sound possible. Not a big fan of distortions etc. Still I'm sure I will try out some of the features like delay out of curiosity if nothing else.
Anyway for 50 + dollars I'm a happy fellow...
