Does anybody know where I can get a digitized copy of the song "Last night" from Johnny Winters "White, hot and blue" album from 1978? (Not issued on CD.)

It should be owned by every blues harp player; and the YT representation of it is just awful.

I used to have one, but it´s lost somewhere in cyberspace; also I´ve actually bought the album twice (wore it out back in the day) and I´m not gonna do it again, esp. since I still have one copy, but no vinyl player anymore.

Thus, I don´t care much for the legal issues here. I´ve paid my way like a good boy.

If you know of a source but prefer to be discreet I can be reached at: martinoldsberg at yahoo.com

Thank you 1847: It was hidden behind another cover. Much appreciated.

@Tweed: you´re right -- I´d missed that. Still, i ain´t gonna pay for it another time.

@bigd: at 2:50? It´s called "guitar". Became rather popular in the latter half of 20th C. Johnny W a famed practitioner.

Just for the sake of comparison, here is a much more recent version of Winter doing the same song, this time with Jon Popper. I think the Ramsey version plays circles around what Popper does here, but I give JP credit for toning down his style and effectively applying is speedy, reedy style to the blues classic.

JP´s playing and sound is at times almost painfully bad on that latter version. Quite possibly in an aesthetically conscious manner, deliberately avoiding anything "bluesy".

But then JW is just a shadow of his former self when it comes to the guitar. Kinda sad.

i don't know.. Popper is pretty good on the high end there, not many better out there on the top.. did you hear him throw in an overblow?

Referring to my previous query I meant to ask for any elaboration on Pat's riff at 2:05 rather than 2:50 which inspired Martin's sarcasm.

Thank you 1847. I sort of knew that without knowing it, i.e., I can't emulate or even approximate "it". I especially like it because it's the kind of clean riff that fits into my u-blocking style. Some time back I was contacted by someone from Pat's former band on I believe Facebook. I believe this musician was in New Orleans. He invited me to play with them anytime I was in the area saying I sounded like Pat. My talent is impoverished relative to Pat but tonally I may approximate him here and there and that riff of his is very seductive as top-off to a crescendo. I believe I've heard Mike from this forum do that too. Thanks. d

@ Martin - CDs of Johnny Winter's "White, Hot and Blue" are discontinued collectors items going for $45 to $200. However, there is a recent 2 in 1 re-issue CD which I ordered from Amazon containing "Nothing But the Blues" and "White Hot and Blue" for $23 Can. It would be under $20 in the US. James Cotton plays Harp on Nothing but the Blues and of course the late great Pat Ramsey on WH&B.
On a related topic, these "two albums on one CD" reissues are a great deal. I also picked up Butterfield's two "Better Days" albums on one CD a few months ago for $15.

@walterharp: JP´s general proficiency in what he does is in no way contested; and yes, he knows how to OB. Still, what he does here ...

@bigd: Sorry if I sounded sarcastic -- honestly didn´t intend, I was just "typewriting". I´m a nice guy at heart, I promise.

@Chris L: Thank you for the pointer. Still, a bit reluctant, not only ´cause I live in Sweden and you can´t get it here. I was never very fond of "Nothing but the blues" -- and that harsh sound, also on the Muddy W productions from mid 70´s that JW was behind, hasn´t aged well.

ah yes that bit at 2:05 was what I though you were talking about... that is one of the licks Jason Ricci took and extended. Mooncat would be the best to answer that question. nice compliment to be asked to sit in with that band!

1847 - I'm presuming you looped that riff I was loving - If so it didn't render right in my browser but I appreciate the effort. I think -in a very general way- that riffs like this (and other similar riffs that were Pat's language on the harp) were created by quick lateral-slide hand movements while bending a couple of notes....I remember the first time I heard Pat's clean horn-like tonality on "Honest I do" on Johnny's album. I hugged my speakers that day!! As I remember Pat wasn't credited on that album back then when I was a kid. Later in years I sat next to Johnny for a William Clarke show (It was the first time either of us saw W.C. and J.W. loved the show) in Manny's Car Wash in NYC and he identified Pat for me....
