Anybody ever tried this in a Harpgear II or champ style amp? Is it a "full range" speaker or to bottom heavy? I do love the idea of being able to move a lot of air with a small speaker which the bigger voice coil will do but wonder if it would overpower the highs. It does have a ribbed cone which would certainly help with the highs.
Thoughts anybody?
Weber descriptions:
8A150 8", 40oz AlNiCo ring magnet, 25 watts, 1-1/2" voice coil, ribbed cone. Big, strong, well controlled low end. Detailed, later breaker. Very loud and aggressive with a lot of punch and dynamics for an 8" speaker. Compresses/fattens at higher volumes.
vs. 8A125T 8", 11oz AlNiCo plug magnet, 20 watts, 1-1/4" voice coil, ribbed cone. Bright, detailed, later breaker. Brighter and chimer than the standard 8A125, compressed/fattened at high volume.
thanks, Carlos del Junco

I have an 8F150 in a Champ, 68 Bronco actually. It is the Alnico version that will not fit in a Tweed Champ IIRC. The amp is modded but with original iron. I find the 8F150 to be LOUD and on the bright side. I cut the treble to 0 on this one which is not typical for me. I just posted a jam that I played on that amp. I'll bump it up for you. Look for "Me at jam". I just set up a Champ for a buddy and he put in the Eminence 820H. We tried about 6 speakers in his amp. Weber 8F125 sounded best followed by a Hepner big mag Alnico from an organ. The supposedly famous Weber Sig 8 was terrible!!! I have not heard the 820H yet in his amp. He likes it though...G

My 8F150 is 4 ohm, 50 watt. I think the 8A125T would be too bright. The 8F125 4 ohm 30 watt sounds the same to me. I prefer ceramic speakers for their punch and clarity but your not going to get any real bass out of a 6W Champ in that small cab. They do have a cool sound though...BN

I run an 8A125-O with an H dustcap in my tweed Champ clone. It tamed some of the brightness normally associated with tweed Champ or Princeton circuits like the HG2. It's not bottom heavy. It's not super bright. Overall, I really like the speaker in this amp.

Stemming off Joe_L's point about the H-dustcap, one other thought I have would be to try a Beam Blocker or something of the ilk. An object directly in front of the dustcap placed up against the grill cloth will help deflect the highs that naturally project from the center of a speaker, and send them out along the cone with the lows. I tried it on my Alamo, and it really helped that 15" sound warmer. ----------
