I haven't been happy with my Super Reverb since I got it out of the shop, but after a lot of knob-turning I found a setting that actually sounded quite good. But before too long I started hearing a noise, a sort of metallic scratching noise whenever I really laid into a reed. Which is what you do fairly often if you play blues music on the harmonica. The amp just wasn't playable.

Then I discovered an amp repair shop almost right in my neighborhood. It's called Acorn Amplifiers, and it's run by Tyler Petito, owner, engineer, amp builder, super nice guy and electronic genius. This is a man who's doing the work he was born to do.

I gave him my amp, and a printout I made of suggestions for modifications that I got from several players here on this forum.

He had me come in, plug my mic in and play while he tinkered about in the amp, which was up in the work bench. He was pointing around, talking technical jargon that I did not understand. But I liked what I was hearing.

Here's the payoff: Tyler has turned my old Super Reverb into a bloody loud son-of-a-bitch that projects like I've never heard a harp amp do. I still can't believe how powerful this amp is now, and it sounds just great.

I'm writing this because Tyler Petito is the best amp tech I've ever known. His company is Acorn Amplifiers, and if you live in or near Atlanta, please give him your business.

We're pretty lucky to have a few here in Indiana too. Kevin from Uncle Alberts amp in Indy,is the grand nephew of one of Danelectros' top designers and engineer. Knows his stuff, lots of well known clients. Down the road about 35 miles is Mr. Valco, from www.valcoamp.com. Terry has an impressive collection of rare Nationals, Valcos, Supros, etc., and knows how they should sound.

Congrats. I'm in North Florida so not too far off. Small towns like mine don't often have great techs. I actually took an amp all the way to Jeff Bakos, also Atlanta and exceptional (Tone Quest). The website at Acorn is great. http://acornamps.com/#/home
