I'm sure this has been posted here before, perhaps more than once, but it's worth posting again:

any sound i want, i make it with my hands
he then proceeds to hold the harp in his right hand
then he switches to his left.
he appears to go back and forth
someone started a thread the other day regarding using the right hand to hold the harmonica. here is just one more example of that.

i get a lot of request when i play my harmonica
"but i play it anyway"

Superb! A person could learn a hell of a lot just by studying this clip and nothing else.

His "look" when he ends that demonstration is very telling...He seems to say - there gotdamit, if you didn't learn anything from that, if that didn't answer your question, then I can't help ya :)

I first remember seeing this video back in 1981 when it was first shown and the now long defunct Tam O'Shanter (AKA The The Tam) in Brookline, MA, when they had a benefit gig for him a few months after he passed away to help offset funeral expenes.

I had seen him at least a dozen times during the 70's and learned tons from watching him like a hawk and hanging out with him. A number of people who were there watching this video for the first time, including myself, were in tears watching it.

Many harp players really should watch this just for learning how to make better use of their hands besides holding the instrument, simple wah-wah's or just holding mic and harp together, since most players make little or no use of their hands at all.
