Check out P.T. Gazell. Great half-valved diatonic player. His latest cd, "Two days out", has lots of lovely melodic playing.

I think an important distinction to make. There are players that embellish melodies and those that create improvised solos that are melodic. Chris Michael was great at both. Carlos del Junco, for sure. I try to play the second way, but with limited success, lol.

Michel Herblin sounds great! So I went looking for CDs to buy. Turns out he only does mp3s. Too bad.

Why not include chromatic players? Toots can both interpret melodies beautifully and improvise on them with fun and imagination, as with his take on Stevie Wonder's My Cherie Amour:

Larry Adler plays "Le Grisbi" in a sexy, even bluesy way:

Stevie Wonder plays Alfie (late '60s studio recording; there's also live video of him playing it at the White House more recently):

Tommy Reilly plays The Green Leaves of Summer, used as a theme in two movies, 1960's The Alamo, and more recently, 2009's Inglourious Basterds:
