My last post regarding a good mic/amp combination for ACCOUSTIC sound was getting kinda long. I appreciate all the feedback and I learned a few things. Thanks to all.

It looks like making a decision on a mic will not be too difficult. On the other hand the right amp is still in question.

A few things I gleaned from the last thread:

1. Stay away from guitar amps.
2. Consider either a keyboard/pa amp or a bass amp.
3. Given that I am looking for a very clean sound, tube amps are not a requirement.

Regarding #2 is my question. Can you guys fill me in on the pros and cons of either type of amp. What does one give me that the other doesn't?

I apologize for this type of question. I'm sure there's a few of you saying - just go to a damn music store and try some out. Well, the closest store is quite a ways off and it's not a particularly big store.

Please keep in mind I'm looking for that clean acoustic sound in my rig. Don't want a lot of overdrive, distortion, etc.

Roland has a few different products that may fit your needs. I don't use them but i know guys who have and they seem to like them pretty well.

By acoustic I take it to mean you are going to play in a duo or small combo maybe. If that's the case might I suggest you try a p.a. channel if one is available? As long as you can get it set along certain lines- highs and gain cut down, bass up some, add some effect to wet it a bit. Of course depending on mic choice! Sm57 is a good mic for that sort of setup. Unidirectional so it resists ambient sounds close by. A good cup can get some serious bark. Or straight up, it reproduces very well.

J - I'd like to keep it under $500 but that's not set in stone. This will be a practice/jam rig so it doesn't have to be huge.

jbone - By accoustic I mean I don't want any overdrive or distortion out of the mic or amp. Just really clean sound. I'll have a few pedals in between so if I decide I need some overdrive I'll do it that way.

I think Roland and Peavey have some good choices.

My question for this post was not so much asking for specific models as it was wanting to know the pros & cons of a bass amp vs. keyboard/pa amp.

Those 2 types are what most are recommending. I have no experience with either.

i would look in to a fender acousonic
the older larger one.
you can get it to do both clean and over driven sounds
most under rated amp out there.

Buy the memphis mini. It's got great tone, line out,it is made for harp players, and the cost is reasonable. You will save money in the long run as you will not have to chase other amps.
