If a company were willing to produce a modelling amp specific to harp, eg. an inexpensive Line 6 "Harp Spider", what would the ideal $2-300 amp contain?

I just spent hours creating pre-sets with my old Spider II guitar amp, and with bass jacked up, treble and mid wayyy down, noise gated, etc, I can even get the Mesa Dual Rectifier model to function without feeding back. Not a bad rock tone, but it will never have the depth of my Bassman which has the same size 12"speaker (and no effects.) But the exercise got me thinking and I put the suggestion on the Line 6 website: why not a modelling amp specific to harmonica?

If such an amp were to be developed, what models of amp would be priorities to include?

What effects would be essential?

Bassman, Champ, Gibson - Ga-30. I dont see a quality modeling amp going for $2-300 dollars. Quilter makes an Excellent modeling amp that James Harman uses. The Quilter Pro 200 I have owned one. They are fantastic, however the do not have the depth of a bigger tube amp with multiple speakers. The Quilter sells for about $900.00 new. They are very high quality.

I think everyone should own a modelling amp. I've got a Line 6 Spider IV 75 watt. Whilst I used it as a guitar amp for a covers band, the one thing you get from this type of amp is a ton of amp models and effects coming out of your ears.

When I consider that a half decent pedal board can cost upwards of $500.00 and a valve amp miniumum of $500.00 for something that will cut above a band, an investment of $300.00 that provides a facsimile of classic amps and pedals can be no bad thing.

And yes ChrisL, Line 6 should spend a little time creating some patches for harp. I think if they marketed it the right way (top name endorser, provided the product was up to scratch) thay'd make a fortune.

My suggestion is to get modeling for effects and try some of the analog pedals for amped tones. That's what I do, anyways.

Obviously, Richard Hunter has been successful with the Digitech RP series.

Neither my direction nor Richard's involves a specific modeling amp - we use pedal boards to PA's.

IMO, the stuff out there would be a great template, but you'd want harp friendly eq's and amp paramters. The POD HD stuff from Line 6 gets close to this.
