Ok. I know. Rachelle Plas, Natacha Seara, Tiffany Harp etc. Female players exist I get that. I just don't know that many and I honestly don't see that many. Most females who play the blues usually sing, play piano, or guitar. Maybe thats just me not keeping my eye peeled all the way back but it sure seems that way. Thoughts?

The best of the local female blues harp players is probably Teresa Lynne.

Philosofy, she left again. I wish her well, but I got a little tired of her joining and asking to be deleted over and over.

There have been a few female members, although I haven't seen them post in a while, and I imagine there are more lurking, but there aren't many. I think maybe we're a bit like mosquitoes- If there are a bunch of mosquitoes around and no people, things are fine. If there are a bunch of mosquitoes around and a bunch of people, everyone gets bit a couple times but no one complains. Our ecosystem seems to be more like the pack of mosquitoes descending on the lone victim. That happens over and over and we never get enough people around for the mosquitoes to stop biting everyone to pieces.

Or, maybe the prison analogy is more apt... when women stop by, we all act like a bunch of guys who have been stuck in solitary for 20 to life and we chase them off.

Or maybe as a raw percentage there just aren't many female players. I don't know. We've had threads trying to figure out the answer, but have never really found out.

There's a lady that I've seen at a few of the jams around the Raleigh area. I don't know her name, but she uses a little shaker mic and she knocks the bottom out of it when it's her turn to play.

When I did the harp amp poll three years ago, 97.4% of
poll participants were men.

Do you know Paula Rangell of "Paula and the Pontiacs?" She can play. She's a Denver native who moved to New Orleans a few years ago. She comes back every now and then for gigs. Good entertainer.

I taught beginner lessons ten years ago in Sacramento. This was one of my students.

I know of at least one lady harper who is s member of this list. :^)

But, I'm used to being lonely. I live in the Western Colorado Outback where you have to hunt for a harp-friendly musical experience.
