I have put a snippet of this on my tabs web page to illustrate points about rhythm notating (& also transposing) but feel that some of what is said about key & position may be flawed advice if possible would be appreciated.

It displays better on my web page as it avoids the plus signs for blows via using underlining for same. Note that ALL note modifiers are AFTER the note (5+* = 5 overblow &) with any spaces and dashes after a note representing additional 1/8 note durations to the note).

The following example is about 3/4 the way down the web page:

SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW - Gotye - played by Grey Owl on YouTube - 4/4 - key of G(Em)=2x(Am) harp (cross harp minor)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njUQb_Fn9UM&feature=c4-overview&list=UUJ3uYOsD6UfQhtbsI_DXsKQ

Original piece by Gotye was in key of F(Dm) which when played cross harp would use a Gm harp. However it was played a full tone higher (A harp used) and without the use of a minor harp. I would term it 2nd position. But I easily could be wrong. To think more.

In any case, the main exercise here was to develop the rhythm to what was played. This was done via finding some SM notes (dots & tails) showing it in F(Dm) and then writing out the notes as:

/C C G G /AB[CA]G - /F F E E /D D C x / … = x:xx
with the letters spaced to show quarter and eighth notes and THEN applying a VBA program to transpose it up two degrees from F(Dm) to show it in the key of G(Am), resulting in:

/4+ 4+ 6+ 6+ /67[4+6]6+ - /5 5 5+ 5+ /4 4 4+ x / … = x:xx key of F(Dm)
/4 4 6 6 /77*[47]6 - /6+ 6+ 5+* 5+* /5+ 5+ 4 x / … = x:xx key of C(Am)
Then altering the notes slightly to agree with GreyOwl's cover gave:

/4 4 6 6 /77+[87]6 - /6+ 6+ 5+* 6 /5+ 5+ 4 x / … = 0:08
Good cover. Very easy to notate.

Btw, the SM (Standard Music notation) notes are from:

My explanation of the key(minor key) and position is probably not too well grounded but this is my best take on it to date. If someone can help educate me on this, I would be very, very grateful. I sure as cannot see that it is in 5th position but who knows… I am confused or not?
