so here is my first real post and first attempt at making something for amplification, most of the description is all in the video but if anybody has any suggestions or ideas for how to improve the sound of my setup that would be greatly appreciated.

Good job! Very resourceful. That housing makes a nice shell! I'd like to know more about it - do you have a source and part number?

The sound will be improved most dramatically by spending some time learning to play with good acoustic tone, and then learning how to properly cup the mic. Proper cupping makes a HUGE difference in tone and is the biggest difference between pros and beginners - not the mic, not the amp, not the harmonica - it is technique.

I've toyed around with using old telephone earpieces as well. Tell me, did you happen to use an impedance transformer of any kind in the build? I know those earpieces tend to be pretty low-Z.

Great job!

I had built many of those DIY mics and is always a fun thing to do.

You have a nice shell there, you should try to use a better mic element.

Try these place www.harpmicshop.com to find one and you are gonna end up whit a very good mic for a very low price.

Sounds pretty good. I made one from an early 60's rotary phone ear piece. Wired it with an XLR cable. Need an IMT though, and it is one hot mic. My sound guy says he can only have me potted up to 3 or 4 at best before the feedback starts. So I can only use it in certain venues.

Tim, that sounds like your demo of the tweed vibrolux.

I hear some shades of similarity Rick. They're both dynamic elements, so that might lend to some of it. Man, I wish that Vibrolux hadnt conked out. I was starting to have fun with it that night.

EDIT: Embedding the OP's vid for reference & comparison sake.

thanks hawkeye im just getting used to uploading and getting around the forums, and to your earlier question: no i didnt have to do any adds or mods to anything the earpiece basically just fell out of the phone with two +- screws that were previously wired and two dots of solder that i soldered to the volume pot and jack and installed in the shell, then plugged it straight into the input of my amp with regular 1/4" instrument cable

I did the same thing with the first attempt I made. Just used the receiver handset as my housing and cut it in half. No volume pot.
