We all know that people make millions of dollars selling their product by using sexual properties to stimulate a buyers urge to pull out a wad of cash.

What BLUES artists do you feel have most capitalized on using some sort of "sexual prowess" to make a buck? No nudity or distastful footage please :)

In the golden age, you could pick bluesmen like , big bill Britons, muddy waters, junior wells, Johnny guitar Watson etc, a lot of the big names wore expensive suits hats, shoes, they Made an effort to look the business. Maybe this should be another thread?
But todays blues artist with sex appeal, depends on what your looking for?

Obviously, I'm the sexiest harp player out there! I just need to get a few more people to agree and I'll be living on easy street!

---

I don't understand why women think they are sexy, but obviously Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler were sex symbols in their day. I guess you are talking about blues more specifically than just harp...

If you Google Image Search 'Blues Singers' you actually get a pretty motley looking bunch. There are a few lookers in there, but it seems maybe it's more about the attitude.

https://www.google.com/search?q=blues+singers&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS499US499&espv=210&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=s66sUqCSB7S-sQTWjIKoDA&sqi=2&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=930&bih=592

by comparison, look at the images of "Pop Singers"

https://www.google.com/search?q=motley&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS499US499&espv=210&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Ja-sUo2HJszJsQT_pIDwBg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=930&bih=592#es_sm=93&espv=210&q=pop+singers&tbm=isch

Or maybe that's just the era of photoshop showing through, or maybe people just starting going camera crazy later in the blues artists careers when, as many of us do, they'd slid a little from the perfection of youth.

At a gig last week the guitarist I play with alluded to my tongueing technique in a sexual connotation, there was a bit of a laugh around.

Predictive text strikes again! Broonzy!
Stage presence , confidence, attitude, blues people weren't groomed in the same way as other genres. Eg Elvis was groomed to appeal to the young white audiences while playing black music but packaged it up as rockabilly to bring in the country fans as well.
Soon enough he became a sex symbol for women and a pop idol for boys and contemporaries.
Motown became a factory for black vocal groups, like a finishing school, nothing was missed, how you, look, dance, sing, the whole
Package
The nearest thing to the black blues image in the modern age, sex appeal is hip hop , rap , the jewelry, flash clothes, cars .
If you watch the Chuck D in the scorcesse blues film, he mentions about the lyrical content, attitude, in hip hop, and the blues of little. Walter (boom boom, out go the lights,)
the parallels are closer than you think

Her name is Tipriti Kharbangar.

You boys need to refine your research skills. Why did nobody think to search "sexy blues singer"? When you do that, lots of stuff comes up. She's #2:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/a-tough-sexy-blues-singer-at-kennedy-center-india-festival-embodies-countrys-rise/2011/02/17/ABDjJCJ_story.html

Can an Indian woman--from India--play the blues? Apparently so.

All I see in Tipriti Kharbangar is a pretty woman playing the blues. There are lots of those. I wouldn't say she's using sex to sell it. Now, all you had to to was HEAR Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis" on the radio (which I did when I was a kid. It left a lasting impression......)

There are some beautiful blues guitarists, and a few that definitely use their sex appeal.

Google Ana Popovic and you'll see what I mean.

Ms. Fish is from Kansas City and in her early 20's, so has not even been for much of your life Greg :-)

Click through some videos on Youtube and pay attention to the dates on them, and you can figure out how good she has gotten how fast. She has managed to side step the guitar shredder trap and knows how to put the groove first and build solos. She writes most songs on her two albums

Her second album is very strong and winning awards, but does not do justice to how much passion, power and taste she plays with live.. hope she comes to do a show near you soon!

Annie Raines.
Bonnie Rarity.
Susan Tedeschi-Trucks.
Debbie Davies.
Sue Foley.
Marcia Ball.

No, not every one of these ladies is everyone's cup of tea, but try watching Marcia Ball and not watching her legs all night. Case closed.

A woman named Natacha Seara uses her sex appeal as a way to make a buck or two. Personally I think Muddy Waters and Little Walter used sexual lyrics to drive women crazy and sell records. No they weren't the best lookiing guys in the world but they had plenty of swagger. In addition, a guy named Bobby Rush uses the sex appeal of other women to get more people to his shows. They usually dance in a very sexually provocative manner; much more than most blues dancing.

Here's some Samantha Fish. It looks like she's harmonica friendly..,

I keep meaning to get up to Knuckleheads, but just can't seem to find the time or an excuse to go to KC.

Well, rumor has it that Robert Johnson got a little undone by over-doing his sexual advances beyond the realm of marital boundaries. But my vote goes to the the original taildragger who Bonnie Raitt called the sexiest man alive. Howlin' Wolf. That man oozed alpha male sexiness.

C....Sophia is a hot friend who I introduced to Ashford & Simpson who introduced her to Quincy Jones, etc, etc so you're more than likely right. I glued myself to her after I heard her do "Come Together" with a forceful bluesy burlesque-ish snake-charmer style of verve!

Vicki and I met and became good friends with a 92 year old black guitarist/singer named Jimmy Fields. He used to play at a Farmer's Mkt we did in Celebration, FL (the town that Disney built).

Although his fingers had slowed down, he was the real deal...had played music as a career his whole life and was very musical.

Aside from the fantastic stories he told us about touring, musicians and gigs in the 30's and 40's, he had one philosophy based on his years of experience.

"No matter how good or bad the band, just put a pretty girl out front and she'll bring down the house!"
