Has anyone used a laney cub 8 10 or 12/ r for a harp amp? , I'm thinking if getting one. As they're small. Means I don't have to hump vibrolux or super reverb around all the time.

In a german forum I read regularly, they are quite positive about the cub 10. The 12 should be quite bad, on the other hand. Only problem seems to be that the 10 is not very loud. Not considerably louder than say a vht special 6. Don't know about the 8. Haven't played any of them.

I've tried them all in a shop. I thought they were all ok but none really grabbed me. The 10 was probably the pick, but the 8 was ok too. I thought they might go better with a speaker change. Laney LC15 is way superior IMV, but it's a step up in price too.
I like them ok. I just already have amps I like as much or better.

Hi!,

I owned a Cub 12r and a CUb 10.

CUb 8: Is a Champ Clone, and I bet that it sound good, you cant go wrong whit that circuit.

Cub 10: Is a good amp. It has 26v6, 1x10, Volume Tone and Gain, so is very flexible whit your sound. Is not very loud, that is true, but that is because of the crapy celestion speaker that came whit it. I love that amp, is light, good tone and cheap.

Cub 12r: I dont like this amps. The 3 band EQ is helpfull, but the tone is not for me. When you push it the sound is closer to a fuzz pedal than an overdrive pedal, so is not even close to that "chicago" tone.

I would love to hear a mod CUb 10 (better speaker and tubes)

Hope it helps.

I use a Cub 8 for rehearsal. It's fairly touchy on the gain, so you would probably want to tube down the pre-amp. It's 5 watts, but unlike my VHT Special 6, it doesn't compete well with my guitarist's Pro Jr. (which is 15 watts). Overall, pretty good tone. Could probably do with speaker swap, but for rehearsal it's fine for me. Very compact and light too. I wouldn't gig with it, but I would gig with the VHT (and have).

I have to say, that I use the Cub10 regulary for little stages, cause of it's great tone at moderate loudness. I only swapped the original speaker to an Eminence Legend 1028k.

I love my Laney Cub10. Use it for gigs regularly.
The stock speaker sounds fine to me so I haven't bothered to change it. I've upgraded the tubes though - two vintage 5751s in the preamp section & a pair of Electro-Harmonix 6V6s in the power section.
A few recordings, both taken from recent gigs:
