I noticed how shiny and clean silverware and dishes bowls etc. were coming out when I started using my new dishwasher, and well you hear funny stories about putting strange things in automatic dishwashers so what about the "whole" harmonica?...(I almost forgot that aluminum and certain metals won't work, become discolored) and also some wooden combs may not work...if someone has an old broken harmonica to experiment with...

Maybe the hot water can upset the gapping and stuff it up good and proper.

Dumb It'll definitely ruin wooden combs and plastic(or variations thereof) combs. There are some aggressive chemicals in the usual powder cleaners that might be too aggressive on metal ones as well. Not worth the risk in my opinion Einstein himself once said "Genius is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration" This fails on both counts. Use the perspiration quota to dissasemble the harps and clean them the old fashioned way

I picked up an ultrasonic cleaner from jaycar. I had a few harps from a friend which needed some work. They were so grotty, I decided I needed a cleaner. I don't mind cleaning my own grot away with brushes etc, but the thought of paying detailed attention to someone else's mouth mess was too much. They cleaned up very well with a couple of runs through the UC. I'd post the photo of the mess left in the tub, but I'll refrain in case you don't need to be nauseated. I used to think it was overkill, but I'm a convert to the ultrasonic cleaning solution. ----------

I've recently begun obsessively scrubbing reed plates with a toothbrush after watching Jason's harp cleaning video.
