Hey Folks,I recently acquired a 520 D with a mex. 99s element.I,ve read that they were wired for dual impedence and wanted to know if I remove the resitor when re-wiring.I tried to do a search but couldn,t find any info.I,d appeciate any help.Thanks,NiteCrawler

Use the top connectors to wire it up. Those are the Hi-Z ones. The lower connector is the Lo-Z one if my memory serves me correctly. As far as I recall you can leave the resistor connected if you so wish. The best place to look for the wiring info is on www.greenbulletmics.com or one the Shure discontinued mics section at the Shure website.

The best output is to use the top single terminal on the right and the LOWER terminal on the left. (The two left hand terminals combined form the low impedance output - and either upper or lower will work for high Z combined with the one on the right. The output is better if you use the lower one (and the spec for the element says to use that one as well.
If you're using a volume control, by all means remove the resistor. If you're not, try it both ways. Freq response and output level are subtly different ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

Yeah, the "Dual Impedance" is kind of a misnomer. It's not wired to sense or auto-switch as I have heard people say. It just means you can switch it internally to either high or low. Check this link for actual wiring diagrams via Sure.com:

You're right - it must be internally rewired. However the OP asked about the 520D, not the 520DX. BOTH are dual impedance but they are different animals. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

@Greg - ah yes, of course. I just read 520 and "mex" and just assumed DX. (as every Switchcraft screw on conversion I have done have all been DX) lol.
Here is the Q&A direct from Shure on the D. Although they make no mention of the resistor.
QUESTION: Please describe the different wiring schemes for the model 520D.
ANSWER: High impedance / unbalanced : Black wire to phone plug tip; shield to phone plug sleeve.
Low impedance / unbalanced : Red wire to phone plug tip; shield to phone plug sleeve.
Low impedance / balanced : Red wire to XLR pin 2; black wire to XLR pin 3; shield to XLR pin 1. Inside the mic, cut the blue and black wires in half. Solder the blue wire (from the mic element) to the black wire (from the cable). Insulate this solder connection with electrical tape. Insulate the unused end of the blue wire and the unused end of the black wire.
