Hey Guys, went to SPAH 2013. Met RS in person. Great guy. He showed me the value of having light behind the reed, but more importantly...fewer movements between looking at profile, and rubbing brass during embossing. It turns out that with that one simple process improvement, A GREAT DEAL OF TIME CAN BE SAVED. I took his idea, came up with my own dimensions, and had my dad build one for me. Now that I can post pictures (PhotoBucket), here's a few for your viewing pleasure. This one is made of Red Oak, and has a Walnut finish. It has a black felt enclosure, 800 lumen intensity, desk safe rubber footing pads, and black hinged cover. You can emboss WHILE ON THE LIGHT SLOT, plink, press the reed in and out of the slot to check clearance, and never have to take your eye off the reed. Simple, elegant, beautiful, and effective. Props to Richard Sleigh for the idea! Thanks RS!!

That's a nice box! It looks rugged, like it will last forever.

Yeah! That should withstand a thermo-nuclear attack without any problems. I don't know if you guys get to see a British program called the Antiques Roadshow. It's where people take their treasures along to a panel of experts for a valuation and explanation about it. You get some odd things showing up which were used a couple of hundred years ago. I was just thinking, I wonder what they would make of this in three hundred years time. I wonder if anyone could guess what it was originally used for?
