Barley, I have indeed tried both these speakers in my silverface Fender Champ, before I modified the baffle for a 10-inch speaker. But it was several years ago when Ted was still alive and the speakers may have changed since then, so keep that in mind.
The Sig 8 has the smooth cone and the Sig 8S has the ribbed cone, kind of counter-intuitive. There was very little audible difference between the two. Damn little. Both sounded good in the amp: barky and distorted, much better than a P8R that I also tried. But in Champ-type amps much of the distortion comes from the cranking the circuit, not from abusing the speaker.
IMHO, the common wisdom about smooth-cone speakers being superior for harp is overblown.
What project is this for?

Hi Rick, My Super Princeton is 35W with a Sig 12B and two Weber vintage 8's. The amps lacks cut. It comes to life thru a 2x10 cab with the combo speakers disconnected. I want to try a couple of Sig 8's before I give up on this speaker configuration. I want maximum cut from the 8's so I am thinking the ribed cone 'S' model would give me this. The Sonny Jr Avenger thread makes me think that a 12 and 2x8 will work. Another fellow has had luck with the 12B and two Sig 8's also...BN

Question:
The signature 8 is "Warm, crunchy, early breakup, aggressive." So, how early is early?
I have a Fender Champ SF and I want to put a weber speaker on it, and I cant find the answer to that question.
