I rarely have the house to myself to play amplified, however, the other day I was off from work and cranked up my Stromberg Carlson..not bad. I had never really played the PA head wide open before and now have a new appreciation for it.

GEARWISE - The cabinet contains 2 x 10 inch ceramic speakers and I was using a "cheapo" vocal mic - 40 some bucks - from Guitar Center. Marine Band Deluxe...

You may also notice my VERO AMP to the left of me but I was playing out of the rig back and to the right...

"Boy, you are a tiny bluesman or your house is sure huge!"

Hahaha! I was thinking how big your house was too.

Sounds great Kurt. Mind you with your chops a tin can would sound good!

Glad some of you enjoyed the clip... Although I was just noodling, I thought it was a nice DEMO of how even a patched together rig could sound decent.Who needs a harmonica specific amp!

@rbeetsme and @kingley - My house does have 14 foot ceiling but I am also 6' 1" tall... I think the camera being on the floor distorted things!HA!

Love the tone and your playing. Are you living in a giant's house?

Nice demonstration video with nice tone! I agree that your ceiling height is unusually tall, and the angle of the camera emphasizes this, but this adds interest.

I am also a fan of old tube PA heads for harp. I have two Stomberg-Carlsons: an AU57 with two 6L6s, and a Signet/22 with two EL84s. I also have a Knight KN3245, with two 6L6s. Each amp has a distinctive tone, all good. Each benefits from good speaker choice and good mic choice. Tube PA amps were built for mics, not guitars, and most are good for harp, IMHO.

What model SC is the one in the video? What power tubes? Does it have a two rectifier circuit like the AU57?

Have you tried different mics, and fully cupping the mic?

Stromberg-Carlson also makes a dead ringer of Shures Elvis mic. Can't remember the number.

@dougharps -

The PA head is a SIGNET MODEL – 22 watts

Someday when time allows I may try to play around with different cabinet and speaker options. Unfortunately the amp only really "sings" when it is opened up - not nearly as good sounding at low volume.

Those Signets are nice. I've got a sig 10. Nice playing, sounds damn good.

@MP - that dead ringer Shure mic was made by Shure for Stromberg Carlson. Stromberg Carlson farmed out a lot of there - their, that should have been - products.
