Just bought a 59 Tweed Clone, in route. Any circuit mods our infamous techs would suggest for harp besides tube or speaker swaps, I got that handled. I bought it for guitar, have never blown through a Deluxe, but seems to me it could make a good harp amp?
Thanks!

I played through a 5E3 Deluxe once ($3500 at Guitar Center at the time). I remember thinking the following; "it does everything a Blues Jr. tries and fails at." I covet the 5E3 for harp. ---------- 12gagedan's YouTube Channel

The Ampeg J-20 I've been using lately is supposedly based off the 5E3. If the J-20 sounds as good as it does, I can only imagine how good a genuine 5E3 clone circuit must be for harp. ----------

No, the Ampeg J20 shares some similarities to the Fender 6G3, the brown Deluxe, but it never got much love from the guitar or harp communities. Could be the $800 price tag.
Harpaholic, I've played an original Fender tweed 5E3 narrow panel Deluxe, as well as 5E3 clones and kits. If I were you I'd try the amp unmolested. It sounds dang nice the way it is.

I don't have a 5E3 clone, but an original 1958. I once swapped some tubes around but I have found the original tubes called for on the chart work just fine. Curiously, I get a little bleed from the Mic channel into the Instrument channel, which is usually the channel I plug into. I sometimes run a Kinder AFB box thru it, and sometyimes I don't. I have never used a clone, but am very interested as I don't like to bring the Deluxe to gigs.

I have a 5E3 clone. A modification many harp players like on them is to connect the volume pots as they are on I.E. tweed Bassman. With the signal out from the wiper and 2 resistor. Original the 5e3 have the signal go in to the wiper. http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy77/arnenym/Schematics/Pottarolikakoppling.png

I would try a few different mics with the amp. I'm shure you could find something that will sound good without making any changes.

I've played through my friends 5E3 tweed Deluxe made by Flynn amps. The amp is bulit to the original specs and has no mods of any kind. It's a good little amp for harp. I used a CM and a CR with it and it sounded very nice indeed.

Appreciate all the input! I wouldn't call it a little amp. With a name like Flynn,(no affliation) they have to be the greatest amps on the planet!

Kingley, I've seen them on the web, always wanted one of their amp name plates to put on one of mine.

Hi Harpaholic, Man, you sold me a mic element a couple of years ago. And, well.... let me tell you it is now my favorite element of all time. I am almost afraid to use it because I don't want it to wear out. But when I do use it I don't want to stop. Thanks
