Although he only kinda toots around on it, it's a good little schtick that Ferguson does with his "Golden Mouthie". I caught this last night on YouTube....Craig and his robotic sidekick Geoff Peterson batting it back and forth. And Geoff surprises Craig by blowing harp back at him. Puts Craig in stitches.

The harp is treated well by Craig on the show, especially if a guest is able to play it...

When guest interviews are over on the show, Craig usually asks how they want to end: "awkward pause," "throw frisbees at the horse," or some others, but one is usually "mouth organ." If they choose "mouth organ" Craig gives them a harp to suck and blow on as the interview ends. It's usually just the two of them making some noises, but if the guest can play anything, they win "the golden mouth organ" which is a chromatic harp that an assistant brings out from the back on a pillow under a glass lid. Craig kneels to give it.

Ha! I was wondering if anyone on the forum would catch this bit and post about it on the forum.

It went down just like PM says above. I wouldn't stay up to specifically catch the bit, but if I happened to be up, I'd switch over at the conclusion of the interview to watch it. I think I saw one other person win it but can't remember who. Eventually (or for a while) he dropped the harp option. It was the awkward pause or something else, that's when I stopped checking in periodically.

A coupla observations/comments:

1. regarding Bacon above, he actually has a band that he tours with, a saw them at a free show and they weren't half bad (he was guitar/vocals).

2. I think his little effort there was the harp part in the Beatles Love Me Do.

3. I think it hilarious that he refers to the harp given him as a strange harp, uses Craig's, and then a little (and I mean very little) love me do pops out. Sticky reed on the first one?

4. I always wondered if Ferguson himself could play at all. If he can, then his fumbling around is a great acting job. If not, I wonder why he didn't learn at least a littlle something, Red River Valley? The Piano Man riff?, just so when his guest totally punts, he could do a comedic "cutting heads" of sorts.

Anyway thanks Hawk and PM, great stuff!!

HA! Love Bacon's comment. "Isn't it just sucking and blowing?" My bandleader says the same thing on my introduction at gigs. "Ladies...you wanna learn how to play harmonica? All you gotta do is suck and blow, just like Hawkeye Kane!"

Here's a longer clip of Billy Connolly winning the Golden Mouthie with Oh Suzanna. Harp doesn't come out til fairly late in the vid.

MAN that security code is bullcrap.

I think Kevin knows his way around a harp more than he let on.
People tell me I suck and blow well and I have to say thank you.
That harp Craig let him use appeared and sounded to be an Echo or other tremolo model.
The big prize looked to me to be a 270.

Ewam MacGregor also won.

The Golden Moothie is actually a gold-plated Hohner 270 chromatic.

I'll be damned.....another winner of the Golden Mouthie is none other than Wilford Brimley. The harp doesn't come out til about 7:50, but the whole video is something of an awkward treat to watch.
