@frank-that's even better than flames. Can't wait to see it in one of your youtube vids with 130 harps. You're gonna have to save a lot of money on razors. :)

I use the Cadillac Pete harp tray on a mic stand. Right beneath it I have two String Swing clamp on yokes (designed for ukes) that I hang my JT30 and my Ultimate 57 on. This sits left of my vocal mic. I really love the tray because I got room for adapters, picks, bottleneck slides & capos. It makes for a fast strike off stage at festivals.

But at jams I forego the mic stand and work out of the briefcase the tray came with... very handy indeed.

This topic certainly generated a surprising amount of controversy.

The drummer in one band I am in has a 'vintage' brown Samsonite suitcase rigged to act as a bass drum.

That case not only sounds pretty good, but the vintage look, and novelty of it send me back to when music was down home, and sophisticated, as well. It other words, it creates a mood.

I think a harp case can do the same thing. Really, it's whatever makes you feel the mojo. And you want to be feeling some mojo when you go to work music making.

I've had a couple of cases I liked. One was the Fender tweed case made for harps, and my latest was, as mentioned earlier, the aluminum briefcase with the Cadillac Pete harp tray. Its very functional, and although not vintage, still feels pretty good.

Now, because of this wandering mariachi act I'm involved in, I am haunting thrift stores and such, looking for a 'vintage' leather camera bag or something, with a shoulder strap so I can have a wearable case, that is functional, comfortable, and cool to look at. I'm currently using a belt pack, but it's not really doing it for me.

Having the right clothes, case, hat, etc., for the gig all contributes to the atmosphere you are trying to create, along with the music... for the audience. In the case of live music, they are looking at you as well as listening. Also, if I feel dressed right with the right accessories AND my harps are all in good working order, then I feel ready to put on a show.

Sure, for us, its about the music, but if I am performing, part of the magic is presentation.

Freed from mics and amps, and playing acoustically four or five feet away from a table of diners really makes you aware of presentation. Its very intimate.

I use my seydel harmonica belt only when I don't have a good, save place for my harps on stage. (ore on the street)
And even then I 'll wear it under my shirt :-)

I wonder if Kim, Rod, Rick,Dennis, Steve or Mark would wear a bandolier a whole gig for a hundred dollar bill?

Not quite on topic, but here's how I handled quick onstage song/harp changes back in the day. I had a beautiful black vest, inherited with my father's tuxedo when he got too fat to wear it.

The vest had four pockets; two high, two low. I wore it on stage practically every gig. Into those pockets went the four most used harps-- C, D, G and A. That covered 80 percent of our set list. For the rest of the songs, I'd go back to my harp box sitting on top of the amp. Worked for me.

Cheers,

@wolfkristiansen

I've done that once or twice myself as well. I have a black button-down suit vest with two pockets that can hold up to four harps. If I go to a jam where I'm not really looking to get up and play, but still want to be prepared, I'll stick my big four in those pockets (C, D, G, & A). Couple times I've also worn it to gigs and stuck a few backup harps in the pockets.

Problem with the vest is that it's just a hair snug on me, and when buttoned, it kinda constricts my diaphragm a bit. I may see if my wife will look into making me another one like it that fits with a little more pocket space.
