Just debuted my new band at a farmers market. Hard to believe how well this stuff goes down...I go through these crises of confidence, thinking "who wants to hear this stuff, really?", but everytime folks just come up and are so nice and complimentary. We have double bass, snare, strat and amplified harp. I sing through the harpmic for this outdoor stuff. Crazy debut, 9:40 am... Got a job offer to play at a HotRod festival, an approach for a business card, quite a few "where do you play?" questions, so I guess we've kicked it off...at least I can hear myself in this one. Funny, the boys are quite resistant to the slower numbers, and yet this is where they sound best and I can tell people like it.

Congrats, SB! Sounds like a cool outfit. People don't always know what they want (need) to hear. Would love to see some video. I hear what you're saying about the guitar et al. A lot of 'em want to play faster and faster. I love the slow stuff myself. Sometimes I feel like I'm an anchor. I say stuff like this is a VERY slow blues. Sounds like you're doing great! Keep it up!

Thanks fellers, Yeah the music is one thing; for me the fronting of the band, engaging the audience between numbers...that's the part I'm not really at ease with yet. I've seen people do it really well, but I hadn't actually seriously thought about it until I was on the spot. Much more comfortable singing and playing, but I had better lift my game in that area. I used to be much more of a show-off... I had a couple of bands in the past...this one combines the drummer who was in both with the guitarist from one and the bass from the other. Practicing for busking gigs has been interesting and useful I think...a lot of practice at acoustic volume levels I think helps. I like the energy a big sound provides, but for practice nothing beats being able to speak and be heard. Better late than never, the Facebook page is being created, the cards are on the way...but a logo is the thing I hadn't considered...something which will look cool on a banner, or alongside a tip bucket...I got lots to learn...

Here's a tip (no pun intended). don't call it a TIP BUCKET. Call it a LOVE BUCKET. Tell them you don't want their TIPS, but if they would be so inclined to show a little LOVE toward the band, that would be awesome. Trust me, it works.

Oh yeah, the rig...I didn't know what this would be like outdoors, but it worked pretty good. Bass is into an 80w BC Rich, guitar into a HotRod deluxe, and harp through my 5w Legacy with twin 8"s. we lined all the amps up, with a sheet metal wall behind them, and somehow it all worked, except in both sets we had to ask the guitar to turn up. Funny because he is capable of drowning out the entire band...I guess he is being overly cautious. Anyway, the harp rig is about right for this job. Plenty of scope to use dynamics in my play ----------
