This is from a Blues Band LP, late 80´s I think. Very typical of a way of playing blues that I don´t particularly care for (fast, energetic -- but I remember vividly when I first heard the harmonica solo (starts round 1:45), which was about the same time the album was released as it was played on the radio. (I went out and bought the record on the spot.) Now THIS was taking 3 pos playing to a level that was really refreshing. I´d say it still holds up today (pity the harp is so low in the mix -- worse on YT than I remember form the record) and the snippets from Bizet/Grieg as well as the great attack on 3D are elegant and brutal:
Former front man with Manfred Mann, cited by Bruce Springsteen as a major influence. Member of the Royal Shakespear Company. The Blues Band, which also included Dave Kelly on slide guitar, had a pretty good rum for a couple of years. There was a time when if you heard a harmonica on a British soundtrack it was either Paul Jones or Mark Feltham (Nine Below Zero). ---------- LSC
yeah, only got onto Paul Jones via Joe Bonamassa having him on stage at the 2009 Albert Hall concert (worth checking out, at the very least the bit with Jones) then followed the trail back in time to this :). apparently been mostly doing tv & radio presenter work but with some recent music that might be worth checking out...
I saw them headlining at an all day blues event in the early 1990's. I walked out after two songs. They were awful. They were by far, the worst band I saw all day.
@Kingley: Same here: saw them at a small intimate gig here in Gothenburg, mid 90´s. Everything perfect, sound, crowd all that -- and they were intensely boring. As an added downside I think Paul J took one (1) harmonica solo the entire evening.
