Hi,
I have a Laney Cub12r amp (15w), whit a 12" 50w celestion speaker, and I want to replace the speaker for a Jensen Ceramic.
Can I use the Jensen C12Q (35w) in that amp? or do I need to buy the 50w version??
And, on a side note, how does this speaker watts/amp watts works?
THXS!!

I think that as long at the ohms are the same, then the C12Q should be fine. I'd wait until someone like Mark Burness (5F6H) sees this thread and comments though for confirmation of that. Plus someone might even have a suggestion for a better speaker for that amp (if there is one).

The C12Q with 35w will be fine for that amp. I have this speaker in a Fender Princeton Clone. It is not the loudest speaker you might find, but I really like its tone. I've swapped it for a Cannabis Rex for a try, but didn't like it too much. The Jensen gives me a certain amount of crunch, speaker distortion and some nice treble. Just about right for that Princeton. So at the moment I do not intend to try something else. It's cheap, light and produces decent sound, what more could I expect? But it's a matter of taste of course. Some people will prefer other speakers, I assume.

It should work fine. The C12Q can be a very nice sounding speaker for blues harp. As Harpwood wrote, it is a little low on efficiency/sensitivity so it might make your 15-watt amp seem less powerful.

Rick/Harpwood,
Yes, it wont be louder. The Jensen C12Q is 94.6 db, and the stock speaker is 95db, which is perfect to me, beacause my room is very small and my amp sounds really loud in there(even in the <1 settings). The Jensen C12N (50w) is 98.4 db, so that would be way more loud that I want right now because I play at home, I dont have a band.
I want to make a video, like "Extreme Makeover. Harp Edition" in which a play a song whit the stock amp, and then put the speaker, and the lower gain tubes, so everyone can hear the difference (I hope). I will post it as soon is ready.
Thxs for all your help!!

Great idea, I have to agree with Rick.
However, please bear in mind that a brand new C12Q will need some time of playing to break-in. I remember that my speaker sounded a little shrill and stiff first (like most speakers will probably do) but that improved over time. Maybe you can even find a used one which has been played a bit...

Harpwood,
Yes you are right, I forget that. I guess that there is no need to make the video as soon as the speaker arrive, I can make the first part today, and when the speaker is ready make de next part.

I think it would be interesting to hear the difference between the stock speaker, the C12Q new and then the C12Q broken in.

Kingley,
Your are right!! it should be a 3 part video.
I am going to do that.
I have never seen a video like this, all the videos are made in the final stage, so we cant hear the diference whit the original sound of the amp.
