I have a tweed case but i hate to keep my harps out of their original case's, so they are in the tweed case but in their little boxes. Is it just me and Kingley who keep their harps in the original boxes?

I keep'em in their boxes too. But I don't have a harp case, I carry them in a bag that doesn't close anymore, so I'll have to find something else soon.

Noob, drinking more than I was playing...Its a Special 20. I have them in the key of A, C and D. No case, no amp, no tools. Just me and the reeds. Hopefully I will sound good enough to invest more soon!!!

Love all the pictures, keep them coming...

I must be doing something wrong. I've got about a dozen stock Special 20's, in their boxes, that I carry to the gig in a black nylon shaving kit that I don't use anymore (so I wouldn't have to spend money on a case).

Hardly worth posting a picture of it.

Rick Davis,
I have the same case you have. I like it now, but I did not like it when I first got it. I wanted it to hold my harps securely and upright, so here's what I did:

I cut four strips of 1/8" masonite (one for each of the two sides of each compartment. Then I cut some strips of Foamies (sheets of thin rubber with a stick-on back found in the kids' arts & crafts department at WalMart) to stick onto those masonite strips. Then I cut smaller strips of Foamies (to use as spacers between the harps)to stick onto that long strip. It works almost perfectly, but it looks like your harps are a little longer than my Promasters, so you may need to use the Foamies spacers and not the longer strips.

To keep the harps from falling out when the case is carried, Instead of a gun, I have a couple of small photo albums with music stuff in them. But that's just because it didn't cross my mind to use a gun. :)

Some of you players have some really nice looking custom harps. Jon, Grillslinger and Tonyh in particular. If I get some extra cash, it might be fun to collect a few for myself. Everyone in this thread seems to have nice varieties of gear and great ideas in storing it. I have found that as my kit has becum more organized, I spend less time setting up and breaking down when I play out.

Jon, That is a Bushman Torpedo that I retooled. I added a Volume control and replaced the stock low-z element with a Shure hi-z CM.

I like your case too OW. Did you make that or just paint it? I thought I seen a similar case setup somewhere before but can't remember where.

I also keep mine in their boxes and carry them around in a backpack with notebooks, sheet music, etc. I haven't quite figured out what the case for me is yet. I'd rather have a stronger case for the harmonicas for if I go to SPAH or something. Plus it's a pain to stick all my harps into my bag every time I want them all together.

@Jon & Ryan--I made my case out of a jewlery box that my wife picked up at a yard sale for $3. After I stole it from her, I just tore out all the inside stuff and covered it in blue velvet that I found at another yard sale. I made the partitions out of hardboard covered with the velvet--they are removable.

The tray down next to the mic compartment comes out, and there is room down there for 7 more back-up harps.

In the lid there is a pull-down compartment that holds my harp rack.

It works out very nicely at a gig--I can grab any harp instantly. Sometimes I wish it was bigger--I want to get a Strnaad mic for the rack, and I have no idea how to fit it in. . .

thanks! ... it's just black cardboard curved upwards. There is just one strong lamp facing the ceiling so the light is bounced off and very soft. No other light sources like flashes, lamps or daylight are involved. That's pretty much it. The exposure time is pretty long in such a setting so I used a tripod.
The vignetting was added in PhotoShop so you get this spotlight effect that draws the attention to the center of the picture. That's probably more than you wanted to know so I'll shut up ...

Boris, do you really use that Boss GE7 EQ pedal at those settings? Whoa, that is WILD, and the gain is maxxed out.

Yes, if I use my tube amp I use that settings. Most soundmen insists that you have not add frequency you need, you should decrease others. I leave 200Hz and 1,6 kHz band at zero, while decrease other (different amounts) and increase overall gain. So I boost my amp at 200Hz and 1,6kHz. If I decrease all frequencies down, while add gain to maximum it sounds almost the same as bypass, so if i start moving some sliders to zero I boost amp at that frequency.

Both! Decreasing highs reduce feedback and make tone fatter, while upper mids (1,6k) let harmonica cut through the mix.

Is that a Bass Harp I see? (Or is it one of those concert chromatics?) And that Marine Band looks extended! And Metal combs. We need labels!

I have a set of Huang Musettes. When I ordered it I figured it would come with a hinge, but they didn't. One of these days I'll get out the duct tape.

That is a bass harmonica. I got it about the same time as the Hohner CBH chromatic (which by the way means Cham-ber Huang who started "Huang"),sometime in the 70's. The bass harp was under $200 then. The longer Marine Band is a Stevie Baker special. The diatonics all have custom nickel plated aluminum combs with MS plates and Big River covers. The two in the top of the picture are "chord harmonicas" that I bought with the bass and CBH. Oisin, I've never figured out anything cool to do with the rhythm and blues harps. Tommy Reilly plays a tune on this website describing the chord harp. http://www.patmissin.com/gallery/gallery08.html

How low does a bass harp go? I've heard some are lower than others, but every manufacturer site seems to use different terminology for it, whether it's listing hertz, using all sorts of punctuation ("'"), listing it as low or low low or giving numbers, like C3. I know I should buckle down and learn what each one means. In my head I actually think of it on the grand staff. (or ~, I get so confused!)
