Littoral - Thanks for posting these. William Clarke was such a great player. Along with Gary Primich, he is one of the players I miss the most. He was a truly superb musician with a constant stream of great ideas.
@Kingley: Clarke and Primich, agreed. BW and LW level to me. I was lucky enough to talk harp, 1 on 1, with 3 of them.

The biggest sound in the business!! The first time I saw him in a joint called "Manny's Car Wash" in NYC I sat next to Johnny Winter. Like myself he was unfamiliar with W.C. live (W.C. had recently released "Blowin like Hell" ). J.W.'s literal quote "I haven't heard a band like this since Muddy's early years" was accompanied by a kind of dreamy-saintly smile. W.C. gave big-generous music to his audience...When he stomped his feet, when he got down on his knees, when he opened up with Tsunami songs like "Blowin like Hell" Whoa!!! ---------- Facebook

That was my first time seeing him as well-Mannys Car Wash-don't remember Johnny being there,so it may have been a different gig-but I do remember a young Dennis Gruenling,Mason Casey,Adam Gussow and a few others gathering in the middle of the floor after the show-all of us just floored by what we had just witnessed!!

It might have been my second (I have a swiss cheese memory) time seeing him. I remember Johnny was guarding his eyes from the flashes when he was snapped. And as I always sat in front of the stage for those shows I had pieces of napkins in my ears to protect them: one ball of which I couldn't get out of my ear and the more I tried the further (gulp) it went in towards my canal. I went out and bought a tweezer in between sets.....But the Clarke sequence? Dennis (long before I knew him) was at all those (well: rod Piazza anyway) shows mesmerized..... d ---------- Facebook
