Hello guys, I am new to the community as well as playing the harp. I have been trying to learn the instrument for a little more than a year now. When I first started, I only wanted to play a few simple songs. But guess what? Like someone else said, the more you learn about it, the more there is to learn. It's just amazing. I am also want to post my little practice routine here, could you provide some comments or suggestions? Thanks!

Blues scale long notes, 60BPM, 16 beats per note (20 mins)
Blues scale, 160BPM, 180BPM, 200BPM (10 mins)
Bending on G, A, C, F (15 mins)
Exercise songs (15 mins)
Improvise (15-30 mins)

Welcome aboard!

200 BPM! That's moving! I think my fastest tune is in the 160 range. (I really should spend more time with a click track or metronome.) My practice isn't as formalized as that, but that looks like a good breakdown, particularly that you are working on high, middle and lower harps. Bending a G is a lot different than bending an F.

When you do exercise songs, are you working from tab or trying to play along? Ear training is an important part of learning. :)

Hi Nacoran, thank you! I think by playing fast you are also required to know how to breathe, which lately I realized is one of the most important things to acquire. I use tabs mostly, playing along seems hard for me, hard to keep time.

looks good - remain dedicated to focused practiced, not skimping or rushing the outcomes - master the fundamentals of blues harmonica playing and you'll be light years ahead of most players...You have not mastered something unless it plays itself - you don't have to think about it - it is a part of you and naturally appears in your playing effortlessly.
