Just noticed this over the weekend. Has anyone tried this amp with harp? Seems like it'd be suitable...

I've never tried one but the only Ampeg amps worth a damn for harp were the very early VT40's from the mid 70's, but you need a set of casters or really strong back muscles because they weigh like a ton of bricks, and even with stock speakers they had in them made a Twin Reverb or Super Reverb amp seem like you were lifting a Princeton or Pro Jr. by comparison. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

The early version of the Reverbrocket with the octal base preamp tubes and a 12" alnico Jensen have been a popular harp amp with a few people. The first time I talked to Tom Ellis in the early 90's that was the amp he said he preferred. But, I don't KNOW everything, just some things and mostly I just have opinions and beliefs, which many of us understand are just that.

Still....this little thing looks like it has potential. It has shades of Champ circuitry, 2-band EQ, and the power attenuator (kinda redundant on a 5W amp, but could have its uses). I'd be willing to give one a whirl if I found one in-store somewhere. ----------

Musicians Friend has the 5 watter gvt5 for $199 right now. The bigger ones are bargain priced also.

Yeah....I tried one a while back. The Bandaxall EQ is a little trickier than a single tone knob, but it still generated some great tone.
The bigger GVT15, as someone pointed out recently, looks like it might be a more affordable alternative to the PRRI. No trem, but that's not a huge concern to most.
Only other Ampeg I've used for harp is a Jet 20 reissue. Now that sucker is FUN for harp. 20W through a 12" alnico.

I gotta disagree here. The Jet (AND, as HawkeyeKane points out) the re-issue Jet were fantastic harp amps. I've played both and REALLY regret not buying a vintage one back when you could find them all over for $300.

I bought one earlier this year as my first amp. Good for practicing and small indoor cafe venues. Little underpowered for larger outdoor shows, however I did use it at an outdoor show playing solo. I was able to mike this amp to the main band's amp and sound system . It worked out OK. This amp is adequate for weekend warrior players like me. If you go more pro then you'll likely upgrade. Of course then you will have a second amp you could use for a surround sound effect like Adam has done.
