Just checking through ebay tonight and I found this mic...looks like a CB or Ham radio mic. Anyways the description says it a controlled magnetic element...but is this the same type of element that harp players favour so much?

A quick Google and YouTube search didn't find Shure 401a/b mentioned in relationship to harmonica. But I mean I did a quick <5min scan.

Here's plenty of info in pdf format on this mic:

If it is a high impedance model, yes. The PDF specifies the replacement element as an R5D and that is indeed a Shure CM. Very often these mics are the cheapest way to find good CM's. You just have to know which ones have the elements you want.

You're right JD - the 401B is the low-Z model. It is in the PDF that Ryan posted as well.

@Oisin - that means it is less desirable - but you can often mount an internal impedance matching transformer in a shell between an element like this and the connector - resulting in a high impedance mic. There is very, very little loss of tone this way. Don't give up on that element if the price is right for you.
