I use one when playing harp and cajon. I find it so much easier than a conventional rack. Be aware that it only fits an SM58. Non-steel harp covers don't stick to it [promaster being one]
The gentleman who invented the Harplock is named Gary Applegate. He is primarily a guitar player like you Larry and needed something that would allow him to change harps quickly and easily. He is a very nice guy. I'm sure he would be happy to answer any questions you might have www.garyapplegate.com ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com
I really like the Harp Lock! I have mine on a separate microphone stand than my vocal mic. Having a good microphone stand is the key (along with having the right mic). I bring a mic stand with me to shows that I know is in good condition, because if your mic stand is wobbly it becomes really hard to play. It takes a little getting used to, but I infinitely prefer it to a harmonica rack. There are actually some neat things you can do using the action of the mic stand (even if you get it super stable it will still move a little) but things like trills you can get the mic stand moving a tiny bit and let it move back and forth :)
