Well-written article on Butterfield's roots and wide influence, from New England Public Radios Jazz blog:

Paul Butterfield: Origins of an Originator

Read the comments for a great story from Elizabeth Barraclough, Butterfield's partner of ten years.

The article is an excellent tribute to Butterfield and it makes a strong case for why the late band leader's contributions to the advancement of blues and rock music was profound. It's time , I think, to shame the RRHOF into taking a hard look at Butterfield's career and let this pioneering innovator into the hall. Thanks for posting the link. Harp-er, thanks for posting the vid. This performance is worthy of a standalone album release. Vital band, brilliant harmonica work. Stunning.

Anything recorded 43 years ago sounds dated. Not everything that is old is decrepit, however; this band, for me, has chops to spare , and Butterfield remains the gold standard for blues harmonica playing.

I keep being more and more impressed with Butterfield as I listen to live shows from without his career.

And I don't think he gets enough credit as a band leader.
