Hi Iam a new member and would like some feedback on a harp mic I just purchased. The Shaker Retro Rocket.
It claims to be better that the green bullet. I have not tried it yet it is being shipped as I write. Hoping I made a good buy.

You made a good buy :) .

I just so happen to have one (that's on loan and not really mine but that's for another thread). This is a really fun mic that's super easy to cup with a harmonica. While it doesn't do what my JT-30 does it probably does out perform the current market Hohner Green Bullet. I wouldn't say it's better then one of the most sought after microphones in harmonica history though, lol. The retro rocket will always be a decent mic even if you pick up another one you won't need to part with it. It would probably be really fun to use out and about with a Pignose sized amp if I had one. I'd give it a 3/5 rating easy.

Let's compare the Shaker to vintage Green Bullet

I'll admit i am a old mic nazi but that shaker sounds great!! And I bet it cost less than a Black label 520 haha.

A little hard to compare - I listened to the bassman section for both - but he hardly played any chords through the Shaker. It sounds a little thin to me though. I'll take the black label any day. If you could play the two back to back with your own gear I'm willing to be you would too. But there's a big difference in price.

@ Greg

You are right. When I listen to shaker through the valco it got real bright. Of course like you said theres no comparing one of the worlds best mics with anything new but there is something to be said about it if it is cheap and good for a player gettin into electric harp or just digs the shape of the shell. It reminds me of those little tiny American DT I believe they are little super small mics. Can anyone tell me why they do not reissue like the original CR's? would it be to costly or something to exactly replicate them?

I have played harp for a while now but it is only in the last 5 years that I have busked and played in a band. My first mic was a Green Bullet 520dx which was quite expensive and proved to be unreliable and I didn't think the tone was too great. So I got myself a Shaker Dynamic which was cheap and has turned out to be ultra reliable with a great sound played with a vox da5 for busking and a line 6 spider 111 120w modelling amp for band work.

I have a Retro Rocket too. Mine's the original release with the 5/8" Amphenol connector with 1/4" female adapter. Element went out on mine so I haven't used it for some time. Need to send it in to Shakey though to get her fixed. I miss that little sucker.
