It looks an awfully lot like a Harpmaster/Delta Frost and has spot welded reeds like Suzuki's harps. However, the reed plates are said to be thicker.

Has anyone tried the newer version?

Very interesting. As a fan of the Harpmaster (they're not my favorite, but are a very very solid mid-priced option), I liked reading this part:

"It's not all that long ago that most Japanese-made harmonicas were in the cheap and not-so-cheerful category, but these days Japan makes some of the finest harmonicas on the market. It's encouraging to see examples that suggest Chinese-made harmonicas may be headed in that same direction. Ben tells me that they are curently developing other mid-priced high quality instruments, with one very special one that promises to compete with some of the best harps on the market - stay tuned!"

"Besides, there is no good examples of good signature harmonicas so far."

I dunno about that. I've heard mixed to good reviews for Madcat's signature Hering, and nothing but good reviews Musselwhite's Hering chromatic.

And although his ARTIST series harp is rather lackluster, I have read good things about Steven Tyler's SIGNATURE series Hohner.

I don't really see this as a "signature" harp except that it's named after the store selling it.

yeah, I think the name is just a brand name, not some implied endorsement like the others. It looks to use the Promaster case as well.

Hi Guys, I see you are talking about the Sonnyboy's Special, and as that's one of my models I'll jump right in. It's not a signature harp - we just love Sonnyboy (both of them) and thought it would be a cool name for the site SonnyboysMusicStore.co.uk and for this harp. Not any kind of endorsement.

Secondly, we have them made for us in China at the best factory we have been able to find and they assure us they have no connection with Suzuki. There are things that we too think look Suzuki-like about this harp and that is why we asked them, but apparently not.

The idea behind this harp was to find something in the mid price range to compete with other midrange models whilst keeping the response, tuning, styling and durability to a good level.

We are able to get the price down as we have very small overheads and after a few years trading can now buy in bulk.

Pete and I who run Sonnyboys are both passionate harp players, and my day job is also teaching harmonica (you might have seen my youtube videos?) so we want good harps at a good price to offer our harmonica community and take a long term view of this.

Hope that helps and do come back to me if you have any other questions.
