I put OT because thanks to the 12-Bar sequence, this type of chord progression doesn't apply to most traditional blues and many modern blues. So you need to be familiar with some current music or this may be inapplicable to you. These guys are singing a bunch of different famous songs. ---------- Hunger is the best spice.
Maybe that is a sore spot for originality that someone may aggravate. You know, be that artist known for only 3/4 timing or so. It'd be interesting. I didn't know they were a group called Axis of Awesome, I was mistaken in thinking Axis of Awesome is the name given to the chord progression. ---------- Hunger is the best spice.
There are lots of progressions like this, ones that get used over and over. The 12-bar blues, obviously; the I-vi-IV-V of countless doowop songs; the La Bamba I-IV-V thing; The Gloria I-bVII-IV cycle; Rhythm changes. That's why you can't copyright a chord progression.
Edited to add: I just found a website that lists these (and more) common progressions and the songs that use them:
I show Axis of Awesome to everyone I try to explain anything theory related to eventually. It's a great way to explain to someone what chord structure is. It would be great if someone went through and did the same thing for 12 bar and some other common progressions.
