I'm looking for some impressions on the Soloist Pro, as I'm considering mail ordering one. I've tried harps from most of the other manufacturers, Hohner, Suzuki, Lee Oskar. But have not yet tried Seidel or Bushman. I'm a fan of wood combs, so considering the Soloist Pro.

How does it compare to the Marine Band series? Tone and playability are paramount. I own standard, deluxe and crossover MB's as well as Blues Harps, and a disappointing Manji to compare. How does the Soloist stack up?

Thanks

Solist Pro....

I like it, but seems I always come back to Special 20 and Delta Frost. Maybe I'm just meant to go cheap(er)

Can't really comment on the Soloist Pro as I've never tried one. I once played a friends Seydel Session harp. I thought it was awful to play. Not responsive at all and very leaky. Most of the guys who play the Seydel harps seem to swear by the 1847 model.

I bought one solist pro , a High G .Leaky , not responsive .
I've got 2 blues session : leaky , no power .
Never had an issue with a MBD , CROSSOVER or SP20 .
Much people say the 1847 is very good .

Thanks folks, based on this feedback, I'll probably pass on the Soloist Pro and just pickup another Crossover.

You may find that you like the Soloist pro. I bought one on recommendation of another harp player who loved them. I have a C harp Soloist pro. I will say that I was underwhelmed by it. I prefer the special 20 to it by a long shot. I recently bought a few Crossovers and think they are very good, You can find them on Ebay for between 55-65 dollars. A bit more than the Soloist, but in my experience much better. I have a couple of 1847s and they are real good too, but they cost much more than the other harps I have mentioned. Sometimes you need to try one for yourself to see what you like. I carry my Soloist pro in the car, it works for that.

I have had two of them....played very nice out of the box, but did not last long before blowing out the 5 blow in both. This does not happen to me with MB or SP20's.

I had 3. Played ok. The Ab always stuck in 1 draw. I opened the gap, its still inclined to stick. Reed slightly misaligned I guess.
I broke the 5 draw or 5blow, sorry forgot which, in the Eb, from too much mercy mercy mercy. That's all I ever played on it. I clearly play to hard. I was warned to polish out the mill marks, which I never did.
The F was an ok harp.
First thing I noticed was that they taste funny.
I like the shape and size. They played ok, as well as a hohner blues harp or marine band or sp20 I thought.
The next thing I noticed is they are really bad if you have moustache. Ouch! The worst harp I know in that way.
That's why I stopped using them for a while.
Then I sold the high harps to Sarge. I kept the Ab because I used it in the show and I didn't want to buy another Ab harp.
Eventually I did buy a MB 1896 Ab and it was just a better harp all around so I don't play the Solist Pro now.

I think of them as cheap marine bands. I bought them direct from Germany. Back when I couldn't find an online store that would ship marine band harps to Australia, and locally marine bands were over $50. I bought these 3 in from Germany at about $37 including postage.

Ok, but not for me.

hey Supebee, I was glad you didn't like them cause you made me a great deal on those two. I had Dave Payne turn them into a couple of harps that don't exist.

sarge i think that's so cool that you have those harps via me. i know they all come from Germany but i daresay not many have gone to USA the long way around.
i was really glad to send them to you, and i'm very happy to hear what you did with them 8^)
